How good would we be if we could steal c40m from the taxman and spend on players, (given our entire squad is probably only worth 2 if that!) In all seriousness while everyone is looking at what may be coming for the future of scottish football what could it have been? If Rangers didnt have that extra 40m to invest on players (Gazza Loudrup eh Dale Gordon) during 9IAR they wouldnt IMO have won all those leagues. They wouldnt have got into Europe and they wouldnt have Euro money, league winning pennies to keep building up a better squad. The "Diddy" teams would have been more competitive couple may have got first /second/third in the league over Rangers. Therefore getting them more money to reinvest in players upping the standard of the game in Scotland and the competitiveness of the league. TV deals would therefore be better and probably without the 4OF game rule allowing us to change the structure of the league to make it more entertaining bring in play offs earlier ect ect. I know Rangers arent to blame for the state of Scottish Football, but it looks now that they may have been a very large contributing factor and artificially created the financial GAP that is here today. What next for Gers? Hopefully a league defeat on saturday!!!!!!!!!!!! If they go into administration HMRC will have to agree how much in the pound they are willing to accept from the administrators or else liquidate them. If choose to iquidate most assets go to Criag Whyte as he is the only secured Creditor. HMRC get next to nothing. Start a new Gers Co team and re-apply to the SPL. Would the SPL let them in? for TV revenue I would say yes, but ethically surely they cant allow this to happen. I hope Mr Lawell was right and we can survive without them, at least for three seasons! KTID
Out of interest given this 4 old firm game rule in the TV contract, what would happen if Gers finished bottom of the league and were relegated would Sky say naw and pick who they want in the league?
Interesting point. I guess it never was particularly likely...until now Less extreme and arguably more likely, what if Rangers were in the bottom six and we only had 3 games?
Personally, I'm not bothered what happens to them - what will be, will be, but I have to laugh when I hear the bleating hearts saying that they must be saved for the sake of Scottish football. Apparently, Scottish football cannot survive without Rangers, so therefore we should all rally round and help. Bollocks!! Several years ago they were all for ****ing off down to England and to hell with Scottish football. Times change. Eh?
The TV companies right now are probably crapping themselves that ragers are not just put into administration but liquidation, which is a whole different ball game. They are most likely of the opinion that Scottish football will implode without rfc and that no one in Abu Dhabi/Penang/Australia etc will be interested in CFC-V - any wee diddy team you'd care to name x 4 per season.Commercially they are right of course , even the ex patriot cellic fans will tire of endless horsings on their pay per view premium channels. Mr Lawless has of course reassured TGFITW that they dont need rankers and the majority of them will delight in agreeing, but when the real paymasters in TV land re negotiate the contract, they might be persuaded to show a little contrition. And it wont be the first time the OF have acted in their own self interest, will it?
Every club acts in their own self interest. It's their responsibility to their fans to do so - you would expect your own club to do so, so can hardly act surprised when others do the same. BTW - Congratulations on beating Rangers today. A fine end to a fine week for the Govanites
Yes but wasn't CFC founded on charitable principles ? You take great delight in being different from THEM but when it comes down to it RFC & CFC are one and the same when the TV & SPL cash divvying up comes around. Anyway enjoy your protracted and drawn out league title celebrations but dont play well on the 18th
Rangers have cheated every SPL side for years now. If they did go under it would mean increased support for you guys, maybe the rangers fans would start supporting Killie, or Hearts or motherwell, whoever is closer to them. Rangers have the size of support that they do because of the 9IAR run, they stole fans who probably would have supported a local team. No doubt Celtic have done the same, but if the 50000 who regularly go see Rangers start supporting other teams, even if we lose the TV deal that will increase financials for the other teams and increase competition in the league, and within a couple seasons interest from TV companies as well. I have a feeling if Rangers do go under, their support will move to whoever is most likely to give us a challenge.
Although Majstorovic's defending might suggest otherwise, we weren't founded in order to be charitable towards our footballing opponents.
