I know it hasn't got much to do with saints but hey ho! He is the best manager ever, isn't he? I think what he is doing at Real Madrid is quite remarkable. His Real Madrid team are leading La Liga by 13 points(played a game more than Barça) and Barça are supposed to be the best team ever to play the game and Madrid are walking the league and look good to win the champions league. Mourinho has changed the team, the way they play,everything...Let's not forget he lost 5-0 to Barça in the first game he played against them but the last encounter against the Catalan giants showed how far they have progressed since he has been there. Amazing manager. He should go back to England where he belongs.
While he is a great manager, winning La Liga with Real Madrid is hardly a great feat. Javier Irureta won La Liga with Deportivo la Coruna - now THAT is impressive. For me, Alex Ferguson is light years better than any other manager I have seen. He's done incredible things.
Yeah, but everywhere he goes he galvanizes teams. Porto (2002-2004) 1st season-1 superliga,1 portuguese cup and 1 UEFA cup. 2nd season-1 supercup,1 superliga,1 champions league. Chelsea (2004-2007) 1st season-1 Premier league,1 league cup. 2nd season-1 Community shield,1 premier league. 3rd season-1 FA Cup and 1 league cup. Inter Milan(2008-2010) 1st season-1 Super cup,1 Serie A. 2nd season-1 Serie A,1 Italian cup and 1 champions league. Pretty amazing if you ask me.Yes,SAF has done wonders at Man Utd but he has been there for 25 years.I think Mourinho would of been able to have done aswell.Mourinho stays at clubs for a few years and wins a load of trophies then goes to another club and wins trophies there aswell, this is not easy at all. What Javier Irureta did was amazing though.Brian Clough did an amazing job at Forest in the 80's but those were different times so it's subjective to judge his achievements and compare them to other managers. The thing with Mourinho is that he is successful at every club he goes to,I think that's amazing.
I think he is definitely the best manager of the moment. Best manager of all time? No, not yet but certainly has what it takes to get there. I think winning the champions league with both Porto and Inter are massive feats and both of those clubs were not good enough on paper to get anywhere near the final let alone win it. The fact he has never got it wrong with so many clubs suggests he is the best manager in the world
A typical Deportivo lineup from the 1999-2000 season: Songo'o, Manuel Pablo, Romero, Naybet, Schurrer, Victor, Mauro Silva, Djalminha, Donato, Conceicao, Makaay That average-looking team finished 5 points clear of a Barcelona side which included Rivaldo, Figo, Guardiola, Xavi, Ronald and Frank De Boer, Cocu, Kluivert, Litmanen, Bogarde, Reiziger, among others. That is the greatest achievement by a manager which I have ever witnessed, and it will take some beating.
I feel winning the champions league with Porto when teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man United, Chelsea, and plenty of other huge clubs is a bigger achievement considering the champions league is probably the biggest and most competitive and sought after competition in the world. But you know difference in opinions and everything
Well Dortmund won the Champions League in 1997, so I think that is more impressive than Porto doing it. We're talking about a team with Paul Lambert playing in midfield beating a Juventus side with Zidane, Deschamps, Di Livio and Vieri. They also beat United in the semis. Porto on the other hand, beat Monaco in the final huh and, ironically, Irureta's Deportivo (who had already knocked out Juventus and Milan) in the semis. Mourinho also had the likes of Deco, Carvalho and Maniche to call upon, so you can hardly say it was a weak side.
Yes he is doing amazing at Madrid by spending **** loads of cash. How much has he actually spent?. I respect him far more for what he did at Porto. Madrid are just a team that can spend what they want, just because they are basically owned by the king.
Im not saying they were a weak side but definitely alot weaker than other clubs in the competition. The fact he then did it with Inter who were also weaker again than a lot of the clubs in the competition (although not a particularly weak side). No other manager would be able to do it twice with well below favourites winning the competition, not only that I believe he may do it a third time which no one has ever done before with 3 different sides. He has just been successful everywhere he has been and immediately successful as well. Bearing in mind he is only 49 so he still has a lot of years left in him for a manager's role. Again imo he is not the best manager ever yet but is certainly on his way
Id happily have him as England manager for a couple of years. His dream job appears to be taking over from SAF at united, and I would personally love to see him and his team of fitness coaches get involved and shake things up a bit at the FA.
Great manager, but can't stand the man. Liked him when he first came to England, but he is a preening peacock. If he won the World Cup for England, I will tolerate him
Sir Alex is light years ahead, if "the special one" has 20 more years of success then we can talk again.
Any is a 'good managers' when they are given £200m to spend each season. That's why I think the Chelsea and Manchester City jobs are worthless..! Sir Alex Ferguson is an all time great and the best manager in the world
