The wife and I are discussing the merits of putting 'Pastafarianism' in the religion box as she looks at this as a historical archive for the future generations whilst I think it's pointless as the government has a plethora of highly sensitive and intrusive data about us on it's data bases and doesn't need this added rubbish; let alone fine us for not filling it in.

How many thousand people do they need in order for it to become recognised? I did sociology at A-level and I know in the 2001 census enough people managed to get 'Jedi' recognised. We laughed about how I was going to campaign to get my own religion but the cause of NUFC is greater than my own!

    EDIT: It's 10,000 apparently

Don't you have to speak Italian to be able to become a worshipper of Pastafarianism?

You just have to be touched by his noodley appendage to be converted to understand that life is controlled by the flying spaghetti monster and his sweet dispensing pirates.

Jedi isn't recognised, they just grouped it with the no specified religion category as the government took it as what it was - a pisstake to protest against such an intrusive question by the government.
I'm also convinced the asking how many rooms in your house is a devious attempt to update council tax banding since it's currently based off the value of your house in '93 (or if your house was built after then they use inflation rates using the value when it was built to check how much it would have been worth in '93).

Also has anyone else noticed the data processing company employed is American and the same company behind the trident operation? It's a US defence company and technically under the Patriot act they can share all that personal info with the US government.
Plus some of the questions could lead to thousands being mislabelled as potential terrorist threats, maybe even my dad since he's technically a Nigerian immigrant (his parents were missionaries over there and then moved back when he was about 10).
It's not like they even use the information for services since when they propose new services they conduct an entirely new survey and research.
It's ridiculous - they've already got everything they need from my Driving licence & passport details, my student loan details, the monitoring of my facebook account, my debts, my movements through monitoring CCTV images every day and so forth, so this is just a massive invasion of privacy and spending a ****load more money on a "census" than needed, they should reduce it to the one page it used to be 100 years ago.

<laugh> They probably are, google records your every search and the like as well.
Forgot to say they also have my medical records and potentially my DNA if they analyse the blood/urine samples you now have to submit at the doctors to register! TBH I'm too insignificant for them to really care about a poxy student - especially one who is about to join the workplace & be just another cog in their machine, but still it's not nice them knowing nigh on everything about you!

Where do you have to give those? I've never had to give any samples when registering with a doctor (and have done so very recently).

They're very sneaky in terms of DNA "retrieval"! Remember being told about wet dreams as a youngster? Well... yeah, big cover up story.

The past couple of doctors I've registered with in Leeds made me give them both a blood and a urine sample to check for any underlying illnesses.
But it is possible (if someone wanted to) to then use those samples to garner my DNA.
