Casement Park to be redeveloped into a 40,000 seater stadium, making it the biggest stadium in the north and one of the biggest in Ireland.

Awesome news, I played once at Casement myself and have some great memories of sitting on the grass the banks listening to all sorts of abuse being hurled at my Grandad (former inter-county referee).

Hopefully they don't insist on this stupid rule baring other sports from GAA grounds and we can get some other decent sporting events in there (N.Ireland vs R.Ireland in the Home Nations <whistle>)

Do you know what the total capacity is going to be?

About time really, the GAA is rightly proud of its jewel in the crown, but loads of grounds around are utterly are an absolute disgrace.

Has this been approved in the knowledge that the big Ulster matches/All Ireland semis etc will be played there? It would need to have been or it could be Andytowns Millenium Dome.

Ah the memories of going to games in Casement. That's good news and I hope we get development projects for other grounds as well.

I don't think Ulsters will either. They pay a lot less tax in Clones. A 40k seater stadium in Andytown? No need imo. They should have spread it around.

Played in Casement myself in a schools football final. The pitch is massive. Fantastic news all the same, was beginning to look a bit out-dated

Just noticed from the pictures there that the grass banks have been replaced by stands, shows how long since I've been.

It's the most played and most attended spectator sport in Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom - sounds rather domestic to me.
