Used to watch Dundee utd as a kid and one of my favourite players was a guy called Ian Redford . Was just reading on google that he came and played for town which i didn't know . Just wondered if he was any good when playing down here . would be interesting to hear from anyone that remembers .

    cheers

Vaguely remember this chap , he played in the Lyall era with players like Dalian Atkinson and a young Kiwomya. He played alongside Baltacha in midfield and was ok if I remember.
I think he only stayed 3 to 4 seasons - not sure where he went after that.

I think he got a few goals from midfield, a bit of a Tommy Miller type of player. good player from what i can remember.

If we're older to remember 1990 then I'd better start thinking about my pension ;)

He was okay, he was with us in that period between John Duncan's-almost-as-bad-as-the-Clegg-era side and Lyall's brilliant Division Two winning side, so I guess he definitely played his part in getting us to the inaugural Premier League.

Thanks Dundee! How old do you think I am!?!

Ian Redford was one of John Duncan's signings, not a bad player but definately had his limitations. Nowhere near as good as Zondervan from that era but lets face it back in late 80's who was? The only decent players we had at that time were Dalian Atkinson, Romeo Zondervan and David Lowe <ok> I cant remember when the legend came back for his second spell! 1988 I think it was!

Cranson and Brennan were decent players as well but I think they had moved on by then!

    Dundee

Warky is old enough to remember him but the problem is that Warky is now too bloody old and has forgotten more than he can remember!!

What year did we start having the FISONS logo on our shirt?

I've still got a replica FISONS top from the 92/93 Premeriship season with the red laces! <laugh>

I remember Brennan playing alongside Dozzell in midfield at that time and being one of the better post-Robson pairings.
As for Redford I seem to think he was towards the end of his career when he came to us but was steady enough on the ball and always looked to make a decent pass.

While we are picking the brains of the oldies can i ask a question, with all the talk of the England job and Spurs wanting to keep Harry do you old fellas think that us gifting the country with the two greatest managers in Englands History affected our development???

Dodn't the sale of the old Fisons sports ground in Bent Lane to ITFC have something to do with the sponsorship? I seem to remember one of my first games in adult football was down there when i believe ex Ipswich and Northampton player Gary Thompson was playing for the old Fisons side in the SIL. So going by that you are looking at around about 1990 for the start of fisons sponsorship.
Regards Weightys question, In the terms of Sir Alf probably not, But i do believe that if we could have kept Robson we would have progressed through the 80's so much so when the early 90's and the premier league started we would have been one of the biggest clubs in there thus having the financial clot to then push on with higher profile players.

Cheers Guru i wasn't sure exactly when they started but they sure beat the Radio Orwell sponsors!

Who knows what we would have achieved if we had been able to keep hold of Bobby for another 10 years like Mr John had wanted. We would have been champions a few times I know that much. All we needed was a little extra strength in depth plus all the quality we had at the time. Sadly its a case of Ifs and Buts like so often down the years with our great club. If Bobby had stayed, the Dutchmen would have stayed along with Warky, Brazil, Mariner and Gatesy for starters. If we had carried on with the constant improvements we would undoubtedly be today an established EPL club <ok>
