Hello and welcome to the official Not606 match thread for Sunday's F.A Cup fifth round game between Liverpool & Brighton & Hove Albion. The game is scheduled to be played on Sunday 19th of February 2012 at 4.30PM. The game will be played at Anfield. ESPN will be showing the game live* (Sky Channel 417) and BBC Radio Five Live will have the radio rights to the game. *Please note that you have to have a subscription to watch ESPN. Preview. It's F.A Cup weekend and both Liverpool & Brighton will be looking to reach the quarter-finals of this season's F.A Cup. Liverpool are considered the favorites for the tie being the Premier League side but as we are all aware, the F.A Cup is a competition for the underdogs. After a week in which Liverpool have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, i'm sure everyone associated with Liverpool Football Club will be thankful we can get back to the football. And we've got a good game to look forward to. Despite the F.A Cup being devalued in recent years, both Liverpool & Brighton & Hove Albion will be taking it very seriously indeed. Liverpool, under Kenny Dalglish, have taken both the F.A Cup and the League Cup very seriously. With strong teams put out in both competitions, Liverpool have seen this strategy work. We currently sit in the final of the Carling Cup and are in the fifth round of the F.A Cup. Most observers expect this strategy to continue and Dalglish to put out another strong side. It has been a decent season so far for Liverpool. Currently sitting 7th in the Premier League and still in both domestic cups, Liverpool fans will be reasonably pleased with the season so far. However, every Liverpool fan can see that improvements are needed. The chance conversion rate has been awful so far this season and if Liverpool are to progress, they have to put away the chances they create. With Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll expected to be involved, it gives them a chance to build the relationship upfront and start improving the chance conversion rate! Liverpool's recent form is mixed. In the past four games, Liverpool have won 2, drawn one and lost won. The two wins have come against United in the previous round of this competition and a comprehensive 3-0 away win at Wolves in the Premier League. A decent draw was collected against high-flying Spurs and the loss came in the last game, a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford. This means that Liverpool go into this game on the back of a defeat. Kenny Dalglish will be looking for a response and with the Carling Cup final coming up, it gives the players the chance to stake their claim for a place in the squad. Brighton, the current League 1 champions, have enjoyed a decent season so far. They currently sit 9th in the Championship with 49 points from 31 games. With Gus Poyet doing an excellent job at Brighton with his side playing some excellent football, they will be feeling confident going into this game. They also players which can hurt the Liverpool backline. Up-front, Craig Mackail-Smith was a £3M signing from Peterborough and has got 8 goals so far this season. Paired with ex-Plymouth striker Ashley Barnes, who has 9 goals this season, and you can see that their strike force is going to be a threat. The threat is increased with the wingers. In my opinion, that is the strongest part of their team. Craig Noone, a scouser who was at Liverpool as a youngster and tiled Steven Gerrard's roof a few years ago, and Will Buckley. Noone has 4 goals this season and has provided plenty for the strikers to finish off. Will Buckley, in my opinion, is the main threat. A specialist in late goals, Will has helped Brighton pick up many points in the Championship this season. As i'm sure you aware, we have already met this season. In the third round of the Carling Cup, Liverpool won 2-1 with goals from Craig Bellamy & Dirk Kuyt. Brighton played some good football that day but Liverpool took control of that game and came through it. All of this sets it up for a great game. Here's hoping! Injury News. Liverpool. Craig Noone. Craig Noone will not celebrate if he scores against his beloved Liverpool in the FA Cup at Anfield on Sunday. Albion's Liverpudlian winger revealed to The Argus: "I've thought about scoring and playing there. If I am lucky enough to do that and score it will be a dream come true. "I wouldn't celebrate, just out of respect really to the club I love and support. http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/9535326.Noone_won_t_celebrate_Liverpool_goal/ Well said Nooney lad but lets hope you dont get a sniff of goal let alone score. BTW. ta for the thread Chris.
Nice one chris, lets hope for a whole load of cup upsets before we play and then a good solid (if a little unexciting) 3-0 win to us.
thanks for this one, been waiting all week! lol 5-1 win and nnoney to score consolation then..... these boys are good and i would hope we play a strng team and play with urgency, not an eye on next week... ALA.... bolton.. if we do that I'll go mad... absolutely spanking mad
Suarez will be well up for this game, I say start him and watch let him terrorize the Brighton defence. 3-1 Liverpool, Gerrard 1st goal scorer (pen) in the 17th min. Downing and Suarez with the others. Their goal will be from a set piece. It's easy this prediction lark.
Don't care about a huge winning margin, I want a performance and a clean sheet. 2-0 and above if possible.
You're all welcome in advance, donations greatly appreciated! Also 24 horus from now this damn sig can be gone!
Perfect game for Sterling to get his debut - hopefully if we're 2-0 up Kenny will bring him on. I so wanna see how he can adapt to playing with the first team...
He deserves a start after the way he played against the spuds in the quarters When the fu.k are you coming up? I guess it depends on you Nan. Hope She's doing OK mate. Let's have a chat this weekend.
