Just noted that Villas-Boas said that he didn't need the support of the players only the owner. May be true in actuality, but can't see Nigel saying that. Perhaps the lack of support from his players is the reason behind their failure on the pitch. Needs to get everyone on the bus (train, plane, boat) like our Nige.
I thought Villas-Boas would set the PL alight, but all he's done is say **** and make **** decisions his B teams comment was the highlight.
A manager without the support of his players is a manager deemed to fail. If you loose that dressing room, your job becomes mission impossible.
What a lot of these foreign managers don't seem to realise is that the Premier league is a unique league. They bring their continental ideas over here, some work for a short while, but then other managers find ways of countering. Then because teams like Chelsea have so many prima Donna's in them, tend to blame every one else bar themselves for not getting results. Somehow it will be doubtful if Villas-Boas is going to be at Chelsea for too much longer. Could be wrong but somehow doubt it.
I think Villas-Boas' card was marked when the owner came down to the training ground to speak to him near where the players were warming up. That showed the players that he didn't have full support which must have undermined him even more. He looks like a good European manager, but that's all it is...no real substance.
Yep. What good is a manager who's great in Europe if he can't actually qualify you for Europe in the first place?
Who says there will be loads of B sides in the football league? If a team wants to enter a B side (and it can be any team btw, not just a PL team), they start right at the bottom ala AFC Wimbledon and have to earn their right into the FL. There are so many positives to having B sides I really don't understand why so many people are against it.
Because B sides are not real teams..they can't be in the same league as the main team, so it affects competition. What happens if they are drawn against the parent club in a cup?
Problem with Chelsea is their a club that has far to many egos and oaps. Fat Frank and Terry are now ****, but Boas hasn't been given the money. Before he even got there Torres and Luiz were brought for 'him' by Roman. They need to get rid of Terry,Cech,Lampard,Malouda,Drogba,Bosingwa,Essien, etc
OK where to begin, At the moment there are academy sides for all the "big" teams in England. These are all well and good for a player up to the age of graduation from academy (18/19). Then if they are not an exceptional talent they will go into the reserve league, which is a complete joke as it is full of players either regaining fitness, unwanted by the club or crap. This does not give these young players a competitive envrionment to play in so their development stops. Say Chelsea (seeing as I've hijackewd the Villas Boas thread ) have an 18 year old LB who their coaching staff feels is good enough to play L2 football and has the potential to grow into a PL starter, they let it be known to the 24 L2 clubs that they have a LB with no first team experience at any level who is available for loan. 10 of the L2 clubs come back saying they are happy with their current LB, another handful say that they do not want to use one of their limited number of loans a season on a LB as they want to strengthen other positions, and another handful say they want to try and sign a LB with experience of playing at that level. Lets say that this leaves 2/3 clubs who may express an interest in signing said LB, they then have the pick of all the LB's at all the higher division clubs who are available for loan, so for every one player who does secure a loan move there are many more who don't. Then on top of that the L2 is striving to be succesful in their own division, so they want this LB to come in and hit the ground running as they are trying to achieve their own goals for that season, and as I'm sure you can appreciate not every 18 year old will be able to do that, so he goes on loan plays a couple of times doesn't impress and is dropped/sent back to the parent club. With B teams they play in a competitive league but the parent clubs won't be as bothered about the results as they will be used to develop the players into potential first teamers. Thats one way it helps off the top of my head, there are more but I cba to type them all out, I'll just respond to your questions/arguments as to why they are a bad idea.
B teams would slowly kill of a hell of alot of clubs, destroying the history of the English game. So no they wouldn't be a good idea at all.
With the amount of money prem teams have and the amount of players they bring in. They would rise up the leagues in a very short amount of time. Meaning more teams get religated more go into admin then liquidated. Teams in the lower leagues would have no chance. This would also mean prem teams have even more of the monopoly on players. They could go out splash 30mil on ten really good youngsters just to put them in the b team. It would end up destroying the english league system. It would end up crippling so many teams with history. Just to make the prem even stronger. So no thanx.
