Rico...had no idea you were playing devils advocate...thats why I thought you were a wum.
Disagree bout palacios...he was outstanding from the Jan we bought him until the April/may that season and then his brother was found dead and he never really recovered. Maybe mymemory is wrong in which case I apologise.
As for crouch .... We made a profit 1m on his sale and he along with defoe spearheaded our attack into coming 4th that year. I would not pretend either were great last year but was making the point that neither were as poor buys as you suggested.
I still think Keane did well when he first returned and at the beginning of the following season....

Fair enough you don't ...guess we'll just have to disagree.

My point re sandroand vdv is that Harry redknapp must have agreed to them being bought .... He has the final say so on who does and does not get to join... I'm sure that not everyone he wants comes but I'd lay money that if he said no then they wouldnt be bought.

As for me being a moron...well you smell.....ner ner de ner ner

Are you sure? Putting those 3 names into google only brings up this link from a Dutch source, its translated so it reads abit funny, but Gullit advised VdV not Harry.

Palacios was superb in his first few months for us, added much needed steel to our midfield. After his brother died he seemed to forget how to pass, which is excusable really.

Crouch may have had a poor record but he scored some incredibly important goals for us, Man City and Milan being two of them. I don't really see how you can call players bad signings if we have sold them on for the same or more money.

16.5m for Bentley??? WTF? Did ANY of us think that was a good idea?
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

I got slaughtered on the old 606 when I told everybody what a load of crap Bentley was <laugh>

I think the real problem is that none of us actually knew who was to blame for what when we had a director of football. I have always been critical of the money wasted by clubs (ourselves included) but thats all you ever here from every angle now is the famous "we need to buy" shout. We are a far better side now since we stopped throwing money around like it was confetti.

And mine, look at Spurs or any club in the old days, they had scouts that found duds and the odd superstar now and again.

The tried and tested scouting system we had died when our league opened its doors to foreign players,DC is just an extension of the 'modern' way of finding talent globally instead of nationally and he's not always succesful.

I'd agree with those who say that buying JD was a good move. Proven Premiership goalscorers are like hen's teeth, only a lot more expensive. £15mm wasn't a bad deal for such a player, IMO. Of course, you could always buy Donkey Darren for almost twice the money. Or, there's always Carroll for a mere £20mm more!
All strikers are expensive nowadays - even average to good ones.

  8. He's hardly ever successful! He's screwed up far more times than he's been successful.

Look what he's done to 'Pool! If you don't make the top 6 this season, Comoli and Queen Kenny will be wholly to blame <ok>

Comolli's main problems are overpaying and incompatibility.
He goes after prospects that are pretty well known within the game, for the most part and he doesn't seem to consider how they fit into either the squad or the team ethic.
This means that he has to fork out substantial fees for players that the manager might not want.

You do sometimes wonder if scouting is really that hard - Arsenal's policy of signing players who were superb prospects on Pro Evo 5 (i.e. Nasri and Park Chu-Young) backing this theory up. So there's hope of us selling them Dos Santos yet...

Comolli did sign some very good players for us but also signed some absolute dross for massive amounts of money, many of which we are still trying to get rid of.

8m for The White Cafu, 8m for Gomes, 15m for Bentley being notable bad decisions among many.

Glad to get rid of him, and he`s now doing a similar job for the Mousers lol
