You only have to pay because you're such a pain in the arse to other road users. ;)

There you go, Ricardo, instead of deleting it why not put it in 'NSFW' tags? I think you've deleted more posts in the last two days than DMD and Lamby did in 13 months. Don't be a mopey twat.

Vehicle Excise Duty is the charge for having the luxury of a car, not for using it on the road.

If the law required cyclists to join the same scheme the cost to motorists would go up. That's because the Excise Duty is based on emissions so cycles are zero rated, but someone would still have to pay for the VED disc and admin.

It was the cycling lobby that got roads improved. Car drivers should be grateful to cyclists for them letting cars on their roads. <ok>

I tend to look at a few things before deciding whether to delete or not if I'm not sure. In that case I went with the fact you'd had the same joke in the video you posted so removing it wasn't taking anything from the thread.

I'd have put the tags on if I'd known how to. I do all my tags manually and I haven't used the nsfw ones. Now I've quoted your post that used them I know what they are so I can use them in future.

I think since I became a mod, other than cross boards with GC where I've removed the link and the evidence of the link I've only deleted 3 posts without the person who made them asking me to.

lol I didn't realise we'd fallen out? I thought you'd asked me a question so I answered it.

btw just for the record, the last post I deleted was over a week ago (the mods can see all the deleted posts/threads and we have icons telling us where they are). The only exceptions to that are where there's been a cross board with GC. When that happens I copy our posts into a new thread and delete the original.

That will explain why they are so successful in Holland and other European countries then.

It does partially yes, because research has shown that drivers attitude to cyclists differ in Britain compared to other countries where the car isn't seen as an ego extension.

The cycle lanes abroad are often better designed too. In this Country, accidents occur due to mixing cycles and pedestrians as well as the points where cycle lanes cross roads and other junctions. Cycle lanes abroad also tend not to have cars parked in them as often or cars jumping red lights to sit in the advanced safety zone reserved for cyclists.

By separating cars and cycles, it reinforces this odd attitude some have as to who 'owns' the road. More cycles would cause drivers to be more cycle aware.

jeez... that Bristol footage is shocking. Wtf was he thinking.
I've given up cycling... it's too darn hairy.
There's too many donuts out there who don't know how to use the road... and I'm not limiting that comment to drivers (although of course they can do the most damage)... some pedestrians and cyclists don't know either

I cycle to work most days and I have learned to live with the cretins in cars. Us cyclists aren't all choirboys either when it comes to following the rules and not doing stupid things.

My own pet peeve is a crossroads which is very clearly marked no right turn for the road that I am crossing. There are now two signs, one at the junction and one a hundred yards before. there isn't a day goes by when one or more cars turn right there as its a short cut that avoids a busy roundabout with lights. not only do they turn right but often do so by cutting into the opposite lane for a few yards. It makes crossing a chancy activity.

I've been knocked off twice there in the past four years even though I am ultra careful knowing other people will be ignoring the signs.

Cheshire, I know the stretch of road you mean, and it can be bad when cyclists are 4 abreast on country roads, and they shouldn't do it. But I have seen some drivers deliberately go as close to them as possible when overtaking, or blaring their horns behind them which is inherently dangerous. The car is arguably one of the most lethal things in the world but people seem to forget that and play russian roulette with the lives of themselves and others

How long would it take you to pass the same group of cyclists if they were in single file?

I've mentioned some problems with cycle paths in an earlier post, but the cyclists you suggest should use the cycle paths, strictly speaking aren't allowed to as they'll tend to be traveling at more than the recommended maximum of 18mph.

The cyclists are perfectly entitled to be there and breaking no law. What seems to be at issue is the poor attitude to fellow road users from car drivers. If you need to carry out an emergency stop after overtaking, you should perhaps look into some extra driving lessons as you sound like a danger on the roads.

Dutch, aren't cycle lanes only in urban areas? The road Cheshire is talking about is a fairly narrow country road. Anyway, as you say there are problems with cycle lanes anyway. On the A6 from Stockport to Manchester there are partial cycle lanes on the road, but they have also put bus stops as well causing cyclists to have to veer round them, then they just disappear. Possibly the worst "cycle lane" I have ever come across

What you seem to be saying is that cyclists are safe on cycle paths, so it can't be the cyclists that are the danger. What seems to be the danger is arrogant car drivers that seem to think the roads are theirs alone. These cyclists you mention are getting through the traffic ie going faster than you, so removing them will not make a jot of difference to your journey.

What you're demonstrating is that the danger is you having a poor attitude and limited knowledge. Have a ride round on a bike for a week or two when the weather picks up. Use these magical cycle lanes you talk of and when you've finished mending punctures and realised they don't go where you're heading and you have to stop at every gate and crossing, you'll realise why cyclists use the roads that cycling lobbies initially got improved.
