These Tweets are from Today: "#pompey tell @solentsport that they have no funds to pay for a scan that captain Liam Lawrence needs on an injury" "#pompey boss Appleton also tells us team will take coach to Barnsley rather than the orignal booked plane journey , again to save money." "#pompey boss also said equipment used on the club's training ground pitches could not be accessed as co. housing implements had taken locks" Poor old Pompey!
Getting rather dire. Can anyone who knows such things confirm/deny something for me? I believe that, with the changes made to the parachute payment system, Pompey will see a significant boost next year and the year after, to something in the range of 12m/year. Is that correct? If so, it's a bit of a lifeline if they can see out the season...not enough alone to fix this mess, but enough to help quite a bit.
In their last period of administration someone removed their kitchen, so it's an improvement if they've still got a microwave.
They've only got 11 fit first team players... and one is Kanu! They've asked the FL for special dispensation to bring in loans provided that the other club foots all the costs. Why don't they let the youngsters have a go?!
DTLW, I agree with you. They should simply use youth players. It's what we had to do when the cash ran out and we went down to league one as a result.
Liam Lawrence is probably on £5k per week at least (albeit he wasn't paid last month)....so I can't muster up much sympathy for him
One of the main reasons my sympathy for their plight is slim at best. They had a chance to raise money to pay these day to day costs and perhaps some of their tax bill and instead they refused.
Lawrence is on 20K. Nice one Clotteril. I'd go with the youth players. As much as I want to see my Pompey pull thorugh, why should the FA do us any favours. They didn't for anyone else. I also think they should be focusing their time on the FAPPT.
Met a woman yesterday whose son is a youngster at Portsmouth (forgot to ask name). She says he hasn't been paid for 2 months (bet he hasn't got a big bank balance to back him up) and doesn't get many games because they don't have a reserve team (same problem we have). Bet he'd like a game.
No they will get £8m for the next two seasons. Portsmouth did benefit from the increase from £32m to £48m in parachute payments. Also their liabilities are larger than their assets unless you'd value the squad at more than £20m.
Yes, from what I understand it's now £16m for each of your first two seasons post-relegation, and then £8m for each of the two seasons after that. And should you ever be promoted back to the PL during those four years, then your remaining payments instead get shared between the other Championship clubs. I could be wrong though.
This is beautiful, they're actually going to die this time... I can feel it! it's going to happen, finally... revenge! for everything they've done to us! COYR!
