Cos the betting place is more likely to win, and as long as there's a shred of possibility that he can be brought off the bench, even for 5 seconds, the bet is legit. So they bump up the odds and hope that people will bet the odd quid or two, which (if all goes to plan) is pure profit for them. Betting shops do everything, literally everything, for themselves. Any offer which is perceived to be generous or perceived to be a favour is simply there to rope more people in so they can lose their money.
