I have to say I agree with almost everything you say here, but I and several others have for weeks tried to debate this rationally-all to no avail.
It's not that we're bored -that's the wrong word- we're just weary of trying to get a point across to people who don't want to listen.

saintanton, understood. i've not posted about it before because i knew it was a waste of time, the press had got everyone worked up, there was simply too many idiots, wums and hatred around to even attempt it. was hoping that it's all calmed down enough by now that it can be talked about properly.
and to be fair, apart from a few complaints about this subject coming up again, this has been a well-behaved and wum-free thread (that'll bloody jinx it now <doh>)
even been able to talk to some mancs without insults everywhere

re: king.. no it didn't go over my head, i just wondered why you felt the need to take your oar and stick it in.

re consc: you are entirely right which is why i pointe dout you came on the lfc board to say you are bored which is a contradiction... my right and yours to free spech. you say something i say sonething about what you said. thats ok... finally you're qute entitled to post where you're not banned and you've never been banned off here cos you go do a good job posting... that said again if an oar is stuck in to something don't be shocked if someone slaps said oar...

free speech good... cutting a newb off at the knees not so good. I'm just giving the guy the chance to debate it even if ORIGANLLY I DIDN'T AGREE (or king did that go over your head ;) )

I think the Suarez/Evra affair drew people to either join forums or re-kindle unused accounts to join in the debates. While for a lot of us it seems that everything that can be said, has been said, there's no reason why new members can't add their views. These debates run their natural course and the mods will shut them down if they turn into something more sinister.

I'm of the opinion that anyone can post anywhere they like. I choose to only post on our 'own' board as I have little or no interest in any other teams (except when they are playing us and/or matters arise concerning us and other clubs). I do find it interesting that rival fans want to go on a board to post comments about subjects being boring or whatever - as already said - stop looking for these so called boring threads and stop posting on them if they are so boring.... It's boring for other posters having to read your comments about how boring the other posters/the thread is/are.

And carlsberg - welcome :)

this is debatable. If the non-literal translation is used, it is abusive language. However, if Evra'd said, for example "you ****ing ****!", which is an 'accepted usage' translation, would we make so much of it? Probably not.
To be fair, the FA rarely acts on such indiscretions unless they can't be hidden from the viewers (i.e. Wayne's outburst down a TV camera)

Probably the biggest bone of contention besides Evra escaping any sanction for his behaviour. The 8 match ban appears disproportionate given the paucity of evidence to support Evra's version of events, or the number of times a word was used
I'm not sure about this - my understanding of Evra's comprehension of Spanish, and his use, indicates he has a relatively good grasp. Certainly enough to understand and translate for the manager and for the other South Americans at the club...

Or possibly worried that the private information illegally gained by Murdoch would damage his reputation and make him jobless.

But i'll stick by my first comment.

There is- and always has been- corruption and mendacity throughout our society.
From the top- government, big business, the police, the press etc., right down to the plebs, there are people either looking to feather their own nest regardless of the consequences or just not strong enough to stand up to the bullies.
It would be lovely if the FA and the PFA stood for justice and fairness for all, but they have the same feet of clay as the rest.
Someone said that the PFA should look after all of its members- this is true in the same way that government is responsible for everyone in the society it governs, not just its cronies- but we all know that in practise they look after their own.
The only surprise is that any of us are surprised.

from what i can make out, looking at spanish language sites, it is a commonly used expletive term. and is commonly directed at men, but is not an insult to the recipient themselves, more the female relative of the recipient.

concha (lit. 'shell') 1. [f] [15] the vulva, the vagina (widely known and used by both sexes, however a taboo); 2. la concha de la lora [interj] fixed phrase ('the vulva of the (female) parrot') a common swearing interjection; 3. la concha de tu madre [interj] fixed phrase ('your mother's vulva') a common insult, also la concha de tu hermana ('your sister's vulva') or any female relative's vulva; another common form is la concha tuya ('your vulva'). These expressions are also used for men.

and you're right, under normal circumstances, we wouldn't really make anything of it. it's just part of the game as it is today. however, whichever way you translate it, it still qualifies as abusive language under the fa guidelines.

and what many of us liverpool supporters still find galling is that evra can make so many violations of the rules in ONE game and go unpunished, and suarez can respond to him with 1 comment, which is not necessarily abusive, and get dumped on from all quarters.

as for the pfa, fa, eufa, fifa. they all useless incompetent, corrupt institutions. i'd like to see all clubs bypass them completely and form their own governance framework where they can form their own consensus and run things for the equal benefit of all clubs, not the benefit of the people running the governing bodies.

Yep,And in their latest show of non balanced representation of two players they came down firmly in the corner of 'Outcasts FC'.

In response, the Union threatened strike action. The Football Association in turn banned players affiliated with the AFPTU before the start of the 1909–10 season. The ban saw membership of the Union fall. However, players from Manchester United refused to relinquish their membership. League clubs turned to amateur players to replace players that had been banned, but Manchester United were not able to find enough replacements, risking the cancellation of their opening fixture at home to Bradford City. The Manchester United players were called "Outcasts FC".[SUP][3][/SUP]

Er, that's be the Premier League, wouldn't it?

They don't seem to have a much better idea, and because of the promulgation of the game and various fiefs of responsibility, if the clubs forced a complete break with the FA, they'd need to get recognition from UEFA and FIFA or risk losing out on those lucrative CL fixtures. The players might be banned from representing their countries in FIFA and UEFA competitions.

No, we have to fix the FA, I'm afraid. We have to maintain pressure to get proper oversight and governance of the FA, and separation of the executive (running football in general) and judicial (disciplinary and investigative) functions. At the moment, they're having their cake and eating it.

Sticking my oar in ?

You obviously don't understand the meaning of not 606 'the online sports community'. If you only want to discuss Liverpool with Liverpool posters may I suggest the Kopite ( i think it's Kopite ? ) website and I will continue to use this forum for it's purpose.

And I don't know if you noticed but I said if people don't like it they should ignore it, I hardly think that is discouraging debate ?

yeah... sticking yer oar in.... what of it... thats what you are doing when two guys are talking and you get in the middle of them...

sorry but it's true...

I suppose i'll have to say, again, no issue with any of you posting o nthe baord and i've been on the bante rthread with you bantering but i have to point out of you are on the LFC baord talking then its not the same as positng on your home turf as it were. SImply put i feel that if a site creates separate boards for each team that makes a home and away pitch.

you can come on and give a great performance and all that but in the end if its 10 v 1 you've gotta make sure what you're saying has merit... which is why i never go to the utd board and annoy anyone there (not that i would or you are mind)

now... shall we move along..... I did say i disagree with the comment in quesiton though well put. so did conscepe.. he disagreed in a different way so i called him on it.

StJohn, my fault, i wasn't clear enough in what i put. i meant all clubs, everywhere. not just the premier league.
so all clubs from 1 nation form their own governing body, run by the clubs themselves, where even bottom-league clubs can get equal rights at the governing table.
each nations governing body provides elected representatives to form a governing body for their continent, and each continent provides elected representatives to form a worldwide governing body.
the worldwide body only has control over intercontinental events, and cannot influence continental governing bodies. continental bodies only has control over international events, and cannot influence national bodies.

we'd be able to avoid stupid rule changes like the completely unworkable offside rule, getting rid of stupidity like is the player interfering with play. of course he is, he's on the pitch, by definition, he's interfering with play.
changes to rules would have to come from the bottom up, and so would be shown to work already. not thought up by idiots like blatter and then foisted on everything like they are now.

"Meet the new boss- same as the old boss"
Can't see that breaking away improves anything tbh.
I agree with St. -especially the idea of separating the executive and the judicial.

OK, but we'd still have issues with different governing bodies. It doesn't work with team sports - you can only have one governing body. The alternatives for cricket were a disaster, darts - who the **** is the world champion in actuality, boxing - ditto.
Don't think for a minute they won't act together if they think they can keep the gravy train running...

Naturally - if a player is on the pitch and not seeking to interfere with play, he bloody well should be. If he isn't, he should get the **** off the pitch and make way for someone who is going to try harder to...<laugh>
