.... if the following comments are true. There are a couple of blokes who sit behind me and each game they are moaning about one or more of our players. I then come on here and read similar things like some guy having a dig at Fonte today. Below I have listed all the comments I have heard made by OUR fans about OUR players over the last couple of weeks. It is a wonder we aren't fighting relegation if their assessments are correct. Kelvin –constantly criticised as not being good enough despite being superb this season Richardson - defensively very weak Fonte- can’t head the ball and has been a disappointment this season Hooiveld – too bloody slow Fox – not defensively strong enough and forever making long passes that overshoot Lallana – wants to beat his man three times and then walk the ball into the net Cork – not physically strong enough for this league Schneiderlin – can’t cope with the high tempo English game. Guly – bloody lazy Lambert – should be scoring more goals Sharp – no first touch Lee – they bought him for commercial rather than footballing reasons Connolly – he was finished last season shouldn’t have been given a new contract Hammond – never makes a forward pass. Martin – just about good enough for Eastleigh will never make it as he can’t read the game Puncheon – greedy bugger Our Nigel – hasn’t played at a high enough level to ever become much more than a championship manager
Due to my location I am unable to get to any games so use this site as my main source of information about Saints. I am amazed by some of the comments regularly posted on here and have often wondered about the length of time many of these fans have been around the club. these past couple of years have been I think the best in living memory for Saints fans (in my case over 50 years) so dread to think what those same fans were saying during the two recent seasons when the club suffered from relegations.
Good post. Most of the people where I sit are genuinely delighted that we are doing so well. However, for the West Ham game at St Mary's last year I swapped seats, and apparently we're actually useless. Amazingly, we won the game that night in spite of the entire midfield being incapable of trapping a bag of cement or stringing 2 passes together. Strangely, we also kept a clean sheet despite having no defence and Kelvin being hopeless.
You're as bad as them, moaning about them moaing, why can't everyone just stop moaning, now I'm moaning!!!
Nothing wrong with a bit of realism. Yes we're a good team but that doesn't mean we should be blind to the players' faults. Not that I'm condoning the idiots who buy a ticket just so they can whine about how awful Guly is or whatever.
Yeah, but most of the things stated in the post are true of that player. Its only a weakness of theirs, every player has one or more.
I have put my views on the players below: Kelvin – what a great stopper Richardson – great at taking on a player and getting to the bye line and pulling back great crosses. Fonte- determined player and a great leader who always puts in a good shift Hooiveld – strong and determined loves playing for us great passer of the ball Fox – makes lovely runs and crosses the ball superbly Lallana – much too good for this league Cork – energetic player with good vision Schneiderlin – best passer of the ball we have. Guly – fantastic work rate and his contribution is totally underestimated Lambert – our best player and a real asset Sharp – finds time and space and gets into super position giving passing options up front Lee – really exciting with great pace going to frighten defences once he finds his feet Connolly – has got the best footballing brain in the team Hammond – a great captain and good leader. Never gives up Martin – showing real promise Puncheon – takes some guts to eat humble pie and do what he has done coming back. Our Nigel – Don’t you just love him.
Agreed. I thought the same, but this isn't Godders point, I don't think. I'm sure that he, like all of us, has gone home muttering "Bloody Hell, (add your own player's name), my granny could have scored/stopped that ..". The point is the systematic whinge, whinge whinge. In response to the question where were they when we were struggling, the answer in some cases is that they were at home watching TV. I've got a bunch near me who whinge, whinge and whinge again. Last home game they managed a half time whinge about the state of the beer! I am older than any of them, and have supported Saints since just before the Crimea War, and like others around here I haven't enjoyed watching Saints so much since the Lawrie days. Of course it is frustrating when Kelvin kicks it into touch when not under pressure, or whatever fault other players show ... but hang on. We're a championship side, recently Division 1. Of course we haven't got the world's number one keeper and Lionel Messi has declined any offers we've made him. However, my judgement is always based on whether the guys who pull on that shirt that I love play like they mean it. There isn't one who can be accused of not doing the business for us. Delighted to see Puncheon back, by the way. He has shown he wants to play, and that is what I look for in any Saints player.
"Hello Camelot. How can I help you?" "I'd like to complain please" "What seems to be the problem" "I just got all six numbers and have been told that I only won £3.5m" "But that's great news isn't it?" "The guy last week won £100m. I want my pound back!"
I have a very similar group behind me, they just moan for the sake of moaning Whilst I agree with a few (fonte hasnt been as good, fox always overhits passes) I just don't see the point of moaning for the sake of moaning
Here's how we've done so well: Kelvin â could have had a pay day at West Ham but stayed to lead us out of League 1, one of the best keepers in the League Richardson - crosses like Iniesta Fonte - vital player for us Hooiveld â should be playing in the Europa League Fox â hasn't made a mistake yet Lallana â what a player he is Cork â how this boy not in the Premiership I will never know Schneiderlin â superb midfielder destined for big things Guly â great player and second top goalscorer Lambert â could he even be better Sharp â 1 goal every 2 games Lee â Japanese international?? Connolly â crap players don't score 6 goals Hammond â that goal v Leeds + important player Martin â a lot of teams would give an arm and a leg for a talented young CB Puncheon â one of the most skilful players we have Our Nigel â give this man a sainthood.
I have an occasional whinge when I see someone not putting in the effort but people like this are so tedious to be around. They're the same people who when we go on a 5 game winning streak they will start talking about going unbeaten for the rest of the season and champions league finals in two years. Deep down they want to be Man Utd fans (or whoever is winning the prem at the time) so lets just be grateful that they spend their hard earned cash at Saints instead.
The point is that Post 1 11 & 15 are all correct, sometimes, we all have our views and air them on here, that's what makes it so interesting. We all know that negative posts can be damaging, but are done to bring bad things to our attention, we all know that positive posts are sychophantic, narrow minded, red spectacled, and not worth posting, don't we? I may be trying it on here, maybe!
Kelvin âconstantly criticised as not being good enough despite being superb this season He has been good. The defenders have a great deal of confidence in him, which often goes unnoticed, but is key to an assured defence. Every keeper will make the odd mistake. Richardson - defensively very weak No he isn't Fonte- canât head the ball and has been a disappointment this season Yes he can and he was carrying a slight knock, which hopefully he shook off while he was out with his broken toe. Classy player. Hooiveld â too bloody slow He's a centre half ffs. None of them are actually quick Fox â not defensively strong enough and forever making long passes that overshoot He's alright defensively. Admittedly, he does go for the Hollywood pass too much and often makes a hash of it, but his excellent delivery makes up for that. Lallana â wants to beat his man three times and then walk the ball into the net. Class player. End of. Cork â not physically strong enough for this league. He's very well built. I'm not sure where people get this impression from. Dynamic player with an eye for a pass. Schneiderlin â canât cope with the high tempo English game. Yes he can. This attitude is a hangover of first impressions from when he arrived as an 18 year old. He's always been a great passer and has done a lot of adapting to the higher tempo and more physical game since then. He's still young and will only get better. Guly â bloody lazy Casual at times, but there's no denying that he can make stuff happen or produce something from nothing. Lambert â should be scoring more goals I'd say he's scoring pretty well. His all-round game is far too good for him to be used as an out and out goalscorer, especially now that we have Sharp. Sharp â no first touch Can't say I've notioced that. He does look extremely dangerouis and it won't be long until he starts scoring. Lee â they bought him for commercial rather than footballing reasons He looks bright Connolly â he was finished last season shouldnât have been given a new contract Not a player to rely on, but he still has the attributes to be useful this season. Hammond â never makes a forward pass. His role is to break up play and keep it simple. Solid player who is always fully committed. Martin â just about good enough for Eastleigh will never make it as he canât read the game Needs more match time to develop his composure. Has the tecjhnical skills of a good defender. Puncheon â greedy bugger Looking like a new player this time around. Our Nigel â hasnât played at a high enough level to ever become much more than a championship manager Plenty of good managers were crap players in their day and vice versa.
