Yes, but to be fair, we'd got some pretty awful attendances that season aswell, as many of the fans were boycotting the Lowe and Co regime.
Agreed! Saints have had some shoddy attendances over the years so we shouldn't keep going on about it! I can however understand what people mean when most Pompey fans go on about being the best in the land despite the fact there are very little people that are now attending on a regular basis...
That is why I compared the two attendances for the first home game after admin announced. I think that is a fair comparison. Saints had 27k, Pompey had 14k for a comparable match with both clubs in turmoil at the time and needing their fanbases to support them. It really is amazing how the media, other clubs fans and it seems Pompey fans themselves believe the tripe about a large loyal fanbase.
If you can find five posts saying that from Portsmouth fans on this forum since the beginning of the season, then I will totally agree. You'll probably find more by Southampton fans, claiming that we claim that.
Oh for goodness sake not attendances again. Next it will be trophys....then championships won...then the number of times Pompey have been in admin oh give me strength!
Hhhhmmmmmmm - maybe you need to read more comments on your own board.......... I have however heard people, including commentators calling us the "loudest" fans. Whether that's true or not is subjective. But even so "best" doesn't necessarily mean "most". Do you not agree Rickie?
It doesn't represent your club well though does it... All 16 of your regular fans could claim to be the best fans in the land but it doesn't mean that Pompey is the best supported. Then again it will always vary depending on where your respected clubs current position is
Perhaps it is time for a sticky "Deja Vu" thread where people can leave their old chestnuts by the numbers to save time on typing, something like; 1. Attendances 2. Trophys 3. Non-payment of tax/bills 4. Guly/Harding Yes, that would save sooo much time.
That's 15000+ posts Lapras. They are going to need a bit longer! Here's my first post! http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/25933-Come-on-everybody!
Out of interest, what day was the first game after Southampton announced they were going into administration in 2009? Was it a weekend? Because unless it was a mid-week game pitting it against Portsmouth's game last night is not a fair comparison.
What? What's he getting at? All it seems to me that he's doing is the typical infantile attack policy of having a go at Portsmouth fans for a trait you think we have. He is being the personification of what I described in a different thread, this: Some Southampton fans obsess over our attendence becuase they perpetuate the myth none of us sensible types believe - that Portsmouth fans think they're superior to all others. In the mind of those fans who crow about attendences the fact that Fratton Park doesn't get sold to capacity every game is proof positive against the myth that they perpetuate. So its kind of a situation of getting themselves worked up about something they have convinced themselves the majority of Portsmouth fans believe and they feel the need to gloat about it when they see any fault in that perception.
I hope you survive in pro football, Pompey. If you don't, perhaps it's a blessing in disguise-you and your fans can go down the rec. of a weekend and have a thoroughly enjoyable kick-about and a good scrap in a local league.
Laughing at poor old Pompey is a bit like laughing at the same old joke you soon get fed up with it and want to move on to something more interesting.
