More than nothing, which is what will happen when the only games of interest are Celtic against whoever they will roll over this weekend. I know it's nowhere near the levels of the Premier League in England, however it's not insignificant - nor is it the only problem you'll be facing. Doesn't matter if it's 10 million, 1.3 million, or fifty quid. It's simply a visible measure of something that won't be there when there's no Old Firm games to spice up the scheduling. No decent players will want to move to Celtic if that happens, because there's no competition. Honestly, if Rangers go to the wall (or to whatever lower level of Scottish football the newly re-formed club end up in) then Celtic's ability to compete for European honours will be even worse than it is now. The quality of Celtic's team is pretty much solely maintained by the quality of the opposition they have to beat to win honours - and that means Rangers. Take that away and your team will suffer. And the Scottish national team will suffer through lack of development and opportunity for young players. I'm not saying this from any partisan position - I neither support or follow Celtic or Rangers - however the two have been so utterly dominant throughout such a long period of time, taking one club out of the picture will have major repercussuins on every other scottish club, and will impact Celtic more that any other.
One has been dominant due to off the scale cheating. Factor that in to your bullshit and then come back.
So there'll be no overseas TV deals? If that's the case, then subscriptions to the clubs net channel will be up We won't cease to be in Europe which is a primary revenue stream and Celtic won't cease to be one of the world's biggest sellers in the retail market worldwide simply because there's no Rangers. In actual fact, the teams who will suffer the most will be the smaller SPL teams who DO rely on the TV's paltry money - there's a strong argument that these teams will increase revenue elsewhere through bigger attendances etc. This is all assuming that people in Scotland will cease to want to watch their teams on TV and no-one at all will bid for the TV rights - which they will. No-one will stop supporting Celtic or Aberdeen or St Mirren or Dundee United if there's no Rangers. Quite frankly, the game in Scotland would get along fine without Rangers - it won't have to, though, because, even if Rangers are entirely rubbed out, an FC United of Manchester or Leeds-style team will emerge that will keep the following of Rangers. The summation that the TV deals and European places will disappear because Rangers will is as silly as suggesting that the infrastructure of English Football would fall on its arse without Man United - it wouldn't.
"No decent players will want to move to Celtic if that happens, because there's no competition" Honestly mate, you were making a half decent argument till you threw that in. What a load of hogwash.
Of course there's no overseas deals - there's no competition, therefore no interest. Interest in what happens in Scottish football outside of Scotland would effectively cease - apart from the spot-bettign on how many Celtic will win by this week. If that's the kind of 'competition' you want, then you're welcome to it. There will be no domestic TV either - it'll be driven through clubs on their websites. Which will mean that attendances will NOT go up, people will watch online. As for your last point, it kind of makes my point exactly. IF Manchester United were to go bust, there wouldn't be a disaster with TV and European places beucase English Football ISN'T a two-club dominated association. There's Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, man City, Liverpool, and - on any given day - any of the other teams can and do beat any of the rest. That's simply not the case in Scotland. and disagreeing with me won't make it so.
Why? You'll get players who come to you for the wage packet and the chance to play two games in Europe each August. any player who enjoys playing competitive football to challenge and improve themselves, and to prove that they can cut it at the highest level, wouldn't come to Celtic if there's no real competition for the title.
Celtic. Rangers. When was the last time anyone else got a look in? Aberdeen in 1984, when they had all the moil money. There have only been eleven times since the end of World War 2 that the winners haven't been either Celtic or Rangers. Since the set up of the SPL, no other club has even come second. I'm amazed that you can't se the impact that one of these clubs going bust will have.
In 1967. What have you done in Europe since then? And how do you think you'll be able to get back to those heady days with no cdomestic competition?
I done a bit of Jet-skiing and a bunjee jump, thanks for asking. I do, more than anything, but not a deluded Willy
