<peacedove>Yesterday one of Scotland giants Glasgow Rangers gave notice of administration, and there is a likelyhood of 18 points deduction which would automatically hand over the title to Celtic.
Portsmouth a championship club is also going to administration in England.
Do you think the present wage struture of players are sustainable in United Kindom on the long term basis.? <ok>

Hearts have avoided admin... that's good (their my fave team in Scotland)

Wages are not the only thing to blame when it comes to clubs going in to admin. It's clubs not accounting for Tax. It's the inland revenue that is putting clubs out of business

Their new owner bought the club with money he'd borrowed on the strength of the projected Rangers season ticket sales for the next 25yrs.

Hmm why would they put a club that pays its taxes out of business ? The Queens club weren't very quick in giving the Queen her dues <laugh>

The points you make about TV and Europe are valid.

But they are also more reasons why Rangers have not only put their own club on the verge of extinction but also putting Scottish football back into the dark ages.

They deserve all the **** they're getting and they should'nt be allowed to reform the club if they do go out of business as a punishment for their self centred destruction of the financial balance of the SPL clubs and Scottish football.

They have used money that did'nt belong to them to win tainted trophies and whatever happens they brought it on themselves.

Did you see the interview with Neil Lennon when they asked him what he thought about Rangers situation and if he was worried about the effect on the rivalry and SPL in general and he basically replied that he didn't give a ****.

Short sighted but I supposed when you have put up with what he has then it's understandable.

I agree with Foredeckdaves comment <ok>

It's never good seeing football clubs go to the wall and lets be honest without Rangers in the SPL (not that that'll happen) Celtic would suffer too in the long run as they'd instantly lose the only reason anyone still retains a modicum of interest in Scottish footy...The Old Firm games.

Football as a business model in the UK is wildly unsustainable due to clubs still believing that paying average players astronomical wages will pay off "in the long run". Prepare for the disappearance of many more clubs over the next 5-10 years.

<peacedove>Eight English Premiership clubs can go into administraion.
Eight Premier League sides are in danger of going into administration as HM Revenue and Customs widen their tax probe, according to Wednesday's papers.
.The Sun reports that the tax authorities have launched investigations into the clubs, which like Rangers used Employment Benefit Trusts to pay foreign players. The money is paid tax free into an overseas account, resulting in the player saving 50 per cent tax - so long as they do not draw out the money until they leave the country at the end of their contract.
HMRC have now declared war on the tax dodge, however, opening the floodgates for a number of actions similar to that being carried out at Rangers.
"Rangers may be the tip of the iceberg," football finance expert Dr Chris Brady told the paper. "EBTs became popular with clubs as a means of reducing crippling wage bills. We believe at least eight current or former Premier League clubs are being investigated."
The Daily Record carries fresh allegations about Rangers owner Craig Whyte's behaviour, alleging that £9 million of income tax collected from employees' salaries via PAYE has been kept by the club. It is this, the paper reports, that prompted HMRC's court action on Tuesday to hurry Rangers into administration.

Manchester will give a sigh of relief its Rangers and not Celtic in deep ****.

The city centre is safe and Celtic are still available for testimonial's.

Agree with this, note it says current or former premier league sides. If anybody else has undertaken a similar scheme, and the money does turn out to be taxable, I reckon they would see what happened to Rangers and either pay up, or enter a time to pay scheme whith HMRC.

As for the wage structures, it is only really Man City's that is unsustainable, anf that would only be an issue of the current owner got sick of shelling out.

Rangers has been badly run, don't think you'll find 8 clubs like this. Maybe 1 or 2.
