Just got back with my girl from the game so I'm going to keep it short and sweet. MK Dons were dirtier than a cleavland steamer. Ref was pants even if he did give us two penalties. We didn't bother coming out for the second half.
Although we're winning, we just dont seem to be creating anything, zero goals in last 6 games from inside box(pens excluded).And the 2 that havnt been from set pieces have been 1) Palmed in by the goalie and 2) A shot from 35 yards that could have gone into row Z. Am i asking for too much - we're top of the table FFS !! ??
And I'm now home with a nice cup of tea. My ratings; Hamer - best game for a while. Didn't flap at anything and one tremendous save. 8 Solly - solid as usual and did some good stuff going forward 8 Taylor and Morro - neither as commanding as usual. Fast play to feet had them a bit bamboozled and some poor distribution. 6.5 each Wiggins - solid. Didn't get forward as much as usual though did nearly score on the overlap towards the end. 7 Holland - ponderous. Slowed the midfield down but tried hard. 6 Stephens - poor. Tried umpteen fancy dan passes without looking and cocked most of them up. 5 JJ - high marks for penalty taking. Did nothing else of note. Taken off injured. 7. Green - I thought he had a good game. Everyone around me thought he was crap! 30 harder that hit the bar would have been goal of the season. 7 Kermit - committed and did a power of work but played too deep. I love him but am beginning to wonder whether he is the reason for our lack of fluidity 7 BwP. Beginning to resemble Torres! Tried ever so hard. Couple of good chances. He needs a goal. Did masses f running off the ball but service was poor. 7 Haynes - looked lively. Can't work out if he is a headless chicken or a real prospect. Time will tell. 7 The ref. 9.5. Best I've seen this year. MK Franchise. Very unlucky. Played 90% of the football on show but let down by their own indiscipline. We are going to cop a pasting soon if we keep playing like this. CPs radio interview on the way home was honest and revealing. "winning ugly" and "jittery" were two of his reflections.
I agree with your end analysis entirely, and although the penalties were justified, luck won the game tonight. Even with 10 men MK Dons played the better football, passed better and were well organised and controlled throughout. The last 10 minutes after they scored were again very nervy but luck will not keep on winning games and the team of now seems a very different prospect to the team of earlier this season. The midfield again being the weaker link and BWP does seem to be low on confidence when through on goal.
My moot points - Hamer's one-handed save was incredible. Solly was our best outfield player. BWP worked so hard, but the service was very poor - again. Green needs to sit out a couple of matches. Alan Smith is not worth 60k a week. £600 maybe. MK Dons are a filthy side. Best footballing side, my arse! MK Dons fans are mad as hatters. Dale Stephens needs to get back to basics.
