Liverpool youngster Toni Silva has today joined Northampton Town on loan. The 18-year-old winger joins the League Two Club for an initial period of 28 days. Source: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/silva-heads-out-on-loan Should be a good move for Toni. He has been playing in the NextGen Series and that would have given him some good experience but playing football in a competitive league (League 2) will be a boost to the lad. Northampton currently sit bottom of League 2 but have a good manager in Aidy Boothroyd and most observers seem to be saying that they shouldn't be where they are with the players they have. Hopefully Toni can make a positive impact on the side! Your thoughts?
He will be missed in the next gen I think he has been good in the tournament but even going to a team that are bottom of league 2 will be good experience for him.
A word from the Northampton manager Aidy Boothroyd. By the way, Toni is on the bench for Northampton tonight as they take on AFC Wimbledon. If he does anything, i'll update this thread with news of it.
Toni came on in the 74th minute and has already made an impact. Played the ball into the box and Northampton striker Luke Guttridge headed it home! Northampton currently winning 1-0 and Toni has an assist! EDIT: Northampton won the game 1-0. Toni came on and got an assist so a good start to his loan spell at Northampton!
He has played 4 games so far and completed them all. Blackpool have kept one clean sheet in those four games. They have won two and drawn two in those 4 games. That's all I can find so far. Decent enough by the looks of those stats. Blackpool do like to attack a lot so they will leave holes in the midfield which teams will exploit. I guess playing more regularly will be of importance to Danny. Those games in which he does play will help him learn.
Toni Silva along with Jonjo are raw talents. Toni has speed and likes to take on players but needs to improve his decision making which will come with time. I can see him and Sterling as our wingers in the future!
fair play to chris... great service. silva is a bit of an amoo for me... but we'll see. loans can be good for lads but they really need to be strucutred and targetted. I'd like oujr lads to be good enough to go to championship or prem sides and actually play ala welbeck but right now we have not got the senior squad to support loans of anyone good enough to play prem and so we are lending kids to teams that really just toughen them up rather than teach them.
Chris, send all your match day threads/analysis/loan watches to Damien Comolli and let us know when you've replaced him and/or been signed as a scout On topic: Tony Silva has potential, hopefully next season a loan to a Championship club would do him some good
Very inconsistant, BUT got that bit of quality in the final 3rd which can break down defenses, loan will do him good
Source: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/silva-extends-cobblers-loan Good move all round in my opinion. Like I said when I made this thread, the first-team football will be a great learning curve for Toni. He's already got an assist in his first game and he starts for Northampton tonight! They are taking on Macclesfield at home and i'll update this thread to let you know how Toni gets on tonight.
Liverpool youngster Toni Silva will remain at League Two side Northampton Town for the rest of the season. Silva initially agreed a 28-year deal with the Cobblers, but that has now been extended for the remainder of the 2011-12 campaign. That's a long loan spell Chris
An ideal start for him, hopefully his confidence will grow, especially if he continues to make such an impact and helps them avoid going out of the league.
