http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentis...ign=Feed: theguardian/football/rss (Football) I'm simply puttting this link of here for others to read and commment upon. ps I would urge everyone to read this. It is a brilliantly written article that obliterates the whole "Celtic need Rangers" baloney that's been peddled for the past couple of days. It also has some cracking quotes. "Rumours swirl that Graeme Souness waits in the wings like a moustachioed Sauron."
' Actual ****ing sense about it. I had been listening to my more rabid pals, as well. I was under the impression that no Rangers meant that the very fibre of carbon-based life would implode and take every sentient being in the same galaxy with them into a supermassive black hole which would deny any enrichment in any of our lives.
keep telling yourselves that. I buy my season ticket for old firm games and CL tickets. take them both away (which will happen if we do liquidate) and what have you got? Hearts? they face a winding up order in 2 days unless they find 600 grand I believe who else have a good fan base and a rivalry with you?
Nev And what will Rangers be if you get through this? Skint, all your top players sold, no income because no bank will touch you and the likes of Ticketus wont touch you with a barge pole. So what's the difference? No Rangers or a rump of Rangers which can't compete with Celtic?
So in the nineties when Celtic barely turned up and 9 in a row was being "paid for" ibrox was empty? You went, you survived and you bought international players The difference now is that we won't be wasting money A caller on the radio last night "How will Celtic attract players like Hooper" He was in div2 ffs The end of rangers as a superpower will mean the end of the transfer arms race in Scotland Celtic will save money and other clubs will fill the void Celtic will then move on and the spl will be a very competitive league
I refer the dishonourable viewing gentlemen to my timeline prediction yesterday. Two years ago, there was no problem - it was in the minds of "Kerryfail Accountants" Last year saw "3 in a Row, Nae Dough" - a mantra the club encouraged to avoid criticism Now, it's "youz can't survive without us" . Let's be critical - none of these approaches have been correct. Italian football improved when Juve were forced into a lower league (and, believe me, Juve fans said that would be the death of Italian football) - other, previous sleeping giants like Napoli have improved in their absence (nature abhors a vacuum). The thing that people seem to pin their "Youz can't survive without us" mantra onto appears to be TV money and this is the single worst argument that anyone has ever come up with The reason Celtic and Rangers wanted out of Scotland is that there is no TV money (about £1.3m a year) Even a Rangers-less SPL could command at least a paltry £900k per team deal with even just the BBC - I'm sure having £400k less a year would make up for the savings we'd make on the insurance premiums at the stadium as we won't need to pay for dignified damage repairs twice a season.
I've been to quite a few eddie. most recently kilmarnock away. 6 minute sunday I've been to the *****phile ring once, 4-2 to the teddy bears. boruc was excellent just noticed you said "game" i thought you said away game I've had a season ticket for 8 years mate.
If scottish football was to lose Rangers it would become even worse then it is now.. Celtic would walk the league every year because every other team in Scotland is piss poor.
wonder when you'll actually get bored of winning the league by 40 points a season. knowing timmy well, probably never
But it's true . no one would get within 20 points of Celtic EVER if there was was no Rangers .. How boring would that be !
There's a difference between totally dominating (9IAR) and there being no competition at all. Obviously certain things happened during 9IAR but Celtic were still there and we all still had the rivalry People have been saying for months that the SPL would become boring without the rivalry of the Old Firm, near enough everyone thinks this except Celtic fans. Obviously everyone else is wrong
