Sorry for the misleading title.....kind of.

But Newcastle United have handed teenage midfielder Stephen Logan a professional contract.

The 17-year-old has signed a two and a half year deal at the club.

Stephen Logan: “I’m really pleased with the way things are going, and it’s great to get my first pro contract.

“I’ve been working with Joe Joyce since I was about 14 as I’ve come right through the ranks at Newcastle.

“He’s played an important part in my development, and is very experienced.”

Hopefully he can push on like Vuckic to first team football in the future. :)

Also in other news... following the 5-0 against Tottenham..
Alan Pardew's confident his Newcastle United players will react in the right way to their 5-0 defeat at White Hart Lane.

Alan Pardew: “The most important thing in the Premier League is how you react.

“We now have to react to it.

"We’ve had three key midfielders missing, and when you play a team as good as Spurs, you need all of your best players.

“We didn’t have that, and we were punished for not having round pegs in round holes.”

    and some transfer news aswell.
NEWCASTLE United are tracking Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies.

Manager Alan Pardew met owner Mike Ashley last week to discuss the club’s transfer strategy.

The club’s No1 priority is a defensive recruit after the failed bid to sign Watford’s Adrian Mariappa last month.

And the need for defensive reinforcements has been underlined in recent weeks, not least by Saturday’s 5-0 drubbing at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Pardew and his scouting team are also drawing up targets in other positions, and Davies – who has scored three Premier League goals this season – is understood to be on the club’s summer shortlist.

The 23-year-old, a box-to-box player, could leave the Reebok Stadium, where he is under contract until 2015, at the end of the season if struggling Bolton are relegated.

Owen Coyle’s side are second from bottom of the league, and a point adrift of safety.

And a fire sale would be inevitable if the club lose their battle against relegation to the Championship.

Coyle rates Davies, pictured, highly, and would be reluctant to lose the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, who he has likened to Paul Gascoigne.

“Mark’s style of play is a rare commodity,” said Coyle. “There are not many midfielders around who can keep the ball like he does.

“When Mark is at his best he drives forward and takes people on. The best example of that was Paul Gascoigne who could drive with the ball.

“Mark has a long way to go to get to that level - he has got to get a level of consistency into his game - but he has got great quick feet, and he’s got an end product to his play as well.”

Meanwhile, United’s reserve team were in action away to Everton this afternoon in a behind-closed-doors fixture.

South Tynesider Remie Streete is in Willie Donachie’s squad, as is striker Phil Airey, whose one-month loan at Gateshead was terminated last week.

Why does the title say Folan but the article is about Logan?

Mark Davies is a good player, would give excellent CM cover with Guthrie (so no need for Perch).

Been really impressed with Davies, proper footballer. Sad really, because I like Coyle and don't mind Bolton (compared with some down there), but I'd quite like them to go down now...

Could be Guthrie's replacement seen as he's not extended his deal.

Has he been offered a deal?
    But rejected it?
Or has nothing been offered yet? :)

Not entirely sure what's happening. I think his current deal expires in June but no talks have taken place.
Seems to me a decision was made last summer that he was going to be let go and replaced by Gosling, his recent performances have been great so perhaps he's playing to gain a new deal here or elsewhere in the premier league.
The clubs stance seems to be contract negotiations for all players will take place when the season ends, I would assume to take stock of our position and who we can attract.
Last summer the target must have been 8-10th. A respectable position for Simpson and Guthrie to perform at.
With the prospects of Europe the board may feel we can entice a better standard of player so why pay for Simpson and Guthrie to punch above their weight for another 5 years?

I must admit, with every cameo appearance Gosling has played he has not been good enough.
Don't want to lose Guthrie, as he is a decent and very good replacement for Cabaye and Tiote.
He's stepped in admirably a bit like Raylor at left back when needed.
Just need to figure out the cost of replacing him with an adequate replacement, or get Gosling to step up and be counted for.
I just hope if Guthrie goes then Tiote doesn't in the Summer.
I guess we'll have a lot of cash to play with in the Summer, if he does.

Guthrie's in the driving seat now though. He can leave on a free and demand a better wage from the likes of Villa, Bolton if they stay up, WBA, even Sunderland dare I say it than what we will offer him.
Gosling's head seems to have dropped. Played a big part for Everton as the new wonder kid with guaranteed game time but moving here he faces a fight to get on the bench. Needs a good 6 month loan to a top championship team.

Yeah, i get the feeling he'll be moved on to club in the EPL.
Probably become a bit of a N'zogbia or Duff more so the latter.
He may even join the likes of West Ham, not sure if Big Sam bought him to Bolton from Liverpool, or Bolton to Newcastle.
But they seem to be offering big wages for players at the moment.
So if they get promoted i can see him going there....
Hopefully we can get Abeid to play more games, as he's looked more promising than the likes of Gosling. :)
