What was Blackpool's wage budget when they went up?

£13m, but the £12m for us includes transfer and agent fees too, so you can bet your arse it was more like £15-16m for them, and they were allowed to sign players like Charlie Adam who Williams/Bates wouldn't have let Grayson touch with a bargepole due to his cost. That also doesn't factor in turnover, which we are three times bigger than them in.

In short, we're even cheaper than the cheapest of the cheap. We're the cheaperestest.

Yes I agree, and I blame bates for small quantity of players. But the quality of players is at the feet of the manager. Its a small difference but does matter to the squad. But then take players out that will never play for leeds again (or at least wouldn't have while grayson was here)

Rachubka, Connolly, Andy O'Brien, Sam, Paynter and Kisnorbo. Then take out the ones that are not good enough for the championship who are on decent wages O'Dear, Bruce, Vayrynen and Nunez. You could even take a few players out who you could replace with a good player for very similar wages Forssell, Maik Taylor, Brown.

You have 13 players there and i'm sure that I have missed some as well. Thats not good enough and funnily enough every single one of those players were signed by Grayson. Thats apppalling especially considering that the likes of Lees, White and possibly clayton are on the same if not less than these players and they are possibly some of our best players. A squad overhaul is what is needed in truth and keeping the core of the team and building around it and creating a squad, obviously this will take guts from a manager to just come in and change everything about the squad

Stop talking about Warnock as if he is god. He's not that great a manager

Josh - Name a player Grayson could have and should have purchased?? Name a player that we could afford and who did not want more than 11k a week... Grayson has been trying to sign quality free players and Bates won't pay the wages, he wants to sign the likes of Morgan for a million but the budget isn't there.

Gained promotion SEVEN times, he must be ****.

A lot of those players were signed at different times to fill gaps in the squad. Due to the situation at the time of signing, no one better could have been signed due to budget reasons. If we'd signed fewer players of better quality we'd have been in the same position as last season, extremely strong first team that gets knackered because we have few players to rotate with. The fact is, even with a smaller squad we could only afford quality in the first team and even that wasn't great in some areas.

While yes, if you were to get rid of all the players who aren't good enough in one big sweep, it would open the door for quality to come in in numbers. But that's not how football works, it's staggered and when it's staggered you run into the issue of only having what's available at any given time to sign a player. If you need a player, you end up signing one that's not good enough, and then when someone else leaves you're left with the same problem.

Josh, you just have a serious problem seeing things in terms of a realistic situation. You're overlooking the fact (again) that no one wants our deadwood because they're not good enough. And again, you overlooked the fact that financial constraints and timing lead to the signing of those players in the first place.

decent players cost money and teams are not willing to allow their best players to leave unless they receive a worthy fee, something else Bates is against.

McCarthy - done average with Millwall, promoted Sunderland and Wolves.
Warnock - promoted Notts County, Sheff Utd and QPR; made a middling Palace side into promotion contenders.

Outside of this division, Warnock's also promoted Notts County, Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield Town to the second tier.

It's clear to me which one has the better record.

You forgot about taking Ireland to a World Cup, don't think Warnock has managed internationally.

Plus I think there's a good 10/15 years age difference between them so given the fact that Warnock has had 3 promotions and McCarthy 2 I would say there's not much in it.

Think carefully. Do you honestly think Bates would part with enough cash to attract either of those to Leeds? Forget about discussing big name managers, we all know whats facing us if were honest

Fair points, although I think Warnock's experience should be seen as an asset and is the thing that gives him the edge over McCarthy.
