You only have to look at their ambitions this season to see why. They're having one of their best seasons in recent history and the only thing their fans care about is finishing above Arsenal.

A few weeks back, when Spurs were only a few points off the top of the table, the tax dodger was asked what Spurs' main target is for the remainder of the season and he gave the following answer - "We want to try and finish above Arsenal this year, that's our first aim." - now if that isn't a small club's mentality, I don't know what is. Aiming to finish above Arsenal when you're only a few points off the top of the table is a real sign of desperation.

Their fans' attitude this season is nothing short of a joke. Instead of enjoying their best season in god knows how long, they're consistently going on about how they've overtaken us. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you don't win a trophy for finishing in the top four? Or so I've been told for the past 7 years.

They've been bragging about being above us for the best part of 6 months, but is that really something worth bragging about? I mean we've finished above them for the past 15 years but not once have we seen that as an achievement.

I'm kind of happy they're getting so carried away because when the inevitable happens next season and they're sent crashing back down to earth, they're going to understand how hard it is to consistently finish in the top four and challenge for trophies at the same time.

to be honest i havent heard many of them bragging about being above us , and since we have had a shockingly inconsistent season so far i dont think they are surprised to be above us in the table at the moment.

They have played some damned good football and i will give any team credit for that.

Most teams have a sudden bad patch , spurs havent yet .

Thats not to say it is not just around the corner , im no fan of spurs believe you me but im not gonna slag them off for doing well .

It kinda smacks of sour grapes , ill hold fire on that till they DONT do well .

Yeah - They resemble what we could have done if we hadn't bottled it over the past few seasons.

But there's still time :) We looked pretty good last season until the end of february...

One thing they have dead right is the SPEED that they play at , it catches most teams out and it makes the way slow methodical way we play look crazy.

Their defense is nothing to write home about but i wouldnt mind seeing the speed of our counter attacks to increase.

Sometimes we are so methodical i could scream .

To the original poster. What complete and utter drivel.

Perhaps if you placed your ego to one side you would realise that the thing Tottenham fans have taken most pleasure in this season is our style of play and the results it has produced.

Do we want to finish above you; yes of course we do since we acknowledge that you are a major top 4 rival. For the same reason we are also interested by the results of Chelsea and Liverpool and too would like to finish above them.

Are you even aware of the true definition of 'small club mentality'? We recently revealed plans for a brand new stadium and currently are raising our profile to a level where we can attract player of the same calibre of you.

In fact, it wouldn't appear there is much difference between the financial models of both Arsenal and Tottenham? The spending power between the two clubs isn't huge, and nor are our current ambitions. Setting the 'north London rivalry' aside, you are our biggest rival for a top 4 finish.

Manchester United are a far bigger club than both Tottenham and Arsenal can hope to be in the foreseeable future.
Manchester City have far superior purchasing power.
Chelsea too have a far superior purchasing power.

So if Tottenham fans are keeping one eye on Arsenal's results, it isn't just because you are Arsenal, it is because you are our biggest threat to a champions league place in the long term. If there is any club we can hope to displace for a top-four position long term, it is you. In all honesty if that was Bolton where you are now, they would be getting more attention from Spurs fans than Arsenal would.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but this season the north London rivalry just isn't that important to us. We hold loftier ambitions than just 'getting one over' you for old times sake.

  9. Crap article.

We have given them **** and rubbed their noses in it for 15 years - now they are just doing the same to us.

You can't blame them for enjoying the fact they were right that the gap was closing, and now they have gone past us we can expect more piss taking until we manage to change things around. On current evidence that is not going to be any time soon.

Arsenal have won more trophies both recently and historically and also have higher turnover, basically due to the CL and the bigger stadium. They are definitely the 'bigger' club of the two.

Anyone who thinks Spurs are a 'small' club has no knowledge of football whatever.

Sorry the OP is coming off as sour grapes. Spurs are playing better than us and it reflects in their seasons positioning. They play an attractive and exciting brand of football so i take nothing away from them. They play the best football in the league and i wouldn't have any problem with them finishing higher than us. I refuse to be bitter, i will give credit where credit is due!

Spurs are a small club, so whats new Kamran ??

But make no mistake, they are deservedly where they are and playing the best football too. Has anyone noticed that Bale hasn't really done that match this season and they are still beating teams for fun !!!

I think Arry has got the whole team playing better. With players like VDV, Modric, Lennon, Ade and Parker, are we suprised why they don't have to rely on Bale?

On a side note, is this Spurs team playing like we used to play like?

They break at pace and can hit you down either flank or the middle, so I would say a resounding YES. But not as good <ok>

I miss those days :( It's also a shame for players like, Walcott, OXO, Miyaichi etc would benefit from this style of play......

He's got 10 league goals and about 7/8 assists. Stats don't tell the whole story but he has just won Player of the Month and his quieter games tend to be caused by being double or triple marked which means he gets less of the ball but everyone else gets more time and space.
