Well in an ideal world we'd all be as clever as you then. I honestly didn't know when Pompey won the Fa cup what was going to happen. If I had, then obviously I would have cared and been ashamed of my club and what has happened to it since. I've always gone on record, as saying that the way my club has been run, is an utter disgrace and never tried to argue any different.
Wrong - HMRCs job is to collect taxes. So, income tax, corporation tax, value added tax, excise duty tax, inheritance tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty land tax, national insurance contributions, (anything else?) It also distributes child benefit, tax credits etc. The Courts are there to stop insolvent companies from trading, not HMRC although it does have responsibility for anti-money laundering + enforce the minimum wage.
To be fair, Meowth, I remember thinking pretty much the same thing at the time. I couldn't for the life of me see how a businessman who had only loss- making companies, but a very tricky wealthy(and much wanted) dad, could put so much money through Pompey. I saw other clubs with bigger crowds, higher league position, and more secure backing, spending much less! And THEY were in debt! I didn't know, or care, about the exact financial details, but you've got to admit it looked pretty dodgey!
Noooooo.... HMRC inform the Court to issue a winding up order to liquidate the business, sell the assets and therefore stop it from racking up more debt. Which is what HMRC is trying to do with PFC. A court does not act on its own.
Hi Brecon, long time no see! At the time I never gave it any thought and I don't remember there being any stories (!) in the press that indicated what was going to happen. It's hindsight that changes perspective of history, I think. Also we are getting about two or three threads a week, on this subject, on the Pompey board at the moment, that's almost one each for the amount of blue posters we have at present!
Noooooooo....... any disgruntled creditor can do that - I could do it if they owed me more than £700 and I was prepared to pay the court fee.
It seemed outrageous at the time, but the one thing which really bends the mind, the little clauses everyone had. Like Peter Storrie having a win bonus in his contract! Out-bloody-rageous! Everyone was happy to drink from the fountain of gold, but really should have been looking for the well.
I popped over to The News site thinking a word of support and sympathy might be in order, however upon reading the disrespectful names in use, the fact that some seem to think that we are somehow to blame, plus the sheer amount of uninformed, ignorant ranting, and the constant bickering among themselves, i thought to myself, they are not worth the bother, I am not normally vindictive but these trolls really do deserve a bit of grief and I am afraid they are going to get it, but not from me.
A bit like Greece eh? They weren't even bothering to collect taxes - now they've started collecting the last 3 years worth. Just to be absolutely clear - every Pompey fan is furious at this latest problem. Don't ever think we're not.
Too true Don, if we do go to the wall, I'll be sad of course, but some of the people on there, don't deserve to call themselves Pompey fans. They embarrass the hell out of me.

Hello, Meowth. Been too busy, I'm afraid. I feel sorry for you and those decent fans(which include most of those still left on your board) but I've seen something like this coming for a long time. I couldn't have told you what exactly was wrong, but something didn't smell right (and I'm not referring to the Fratton End). I assure you, this is not 20/20 hindsight, just a niggling doubt that has been bugging me for years! What do you think would be the best(long term) outcome of all this? Chin up!
Yup - I even manage to recognise some of them. Have managed to shortlist the thread hacker down to 3 now.
If it is indeed VAT due in December then I'm sure it will be for transactions the previous quarter Sept, Oct & Nov, there is no excuse not to put aside the monies for this tax as it is accrued especially as they knew they would have a cashflow problem during the later months of the year and would have to be financed by CSI, by Lampitts own admission on the radio this evening. It's a pity PFC weren't aware of the advice of HMRC, "Anyone that regards paying tax as an optional extra, or that uses tax collected from employees or customers as working capital, is potentially heading for trouble.", although come to think of it they probably were but thought WTF
