Just watched the end of MOTD. On last as usual and hardly a surprise. And they could not be even bothered to have any pundit comment, not even a good word for Pog working hard and scoring on his debut. Tony Pulis whinging about Pogâs tackle on Palacios is a bit rich - especilaly given the number of tackles targeted at Clint Dempsey, including by said Palacios. Pulis should be more concerned about his one-dimensional play for almost 70 minutes - a good reason for the match being on last. C O Y W
I'm with you, I'm not bothered about being shown last as that's the way it usually is, but we were the only match without any comments from the so called pundits. They had time to show the 'handshake' ten times over from all sorts of different angles but didn't have a few minutes to comment on the game of ours? Lawro would have gotten a word in if he were there.
MOTD needs to get a remake forced by PL. Not complaining for showing us last but they are not bothered showing even 2 minutes of highlights. Pog got battered all around and there was no protection. Thought that he responded well and the tackle was fair, one footed and hard as Pulis like it!
Haha probably not. I rate Dixon as the best BBC pundit, well before he defended Balotelli after the Parker stamp that is. Shearer is too boring, Hansen too predictable and Lawro is too keen to sit on the fence.
I agree on Dixon - throughout the great escape season he kept saying he thought we'd have enough to stay up. Apparently Hanson, Shearer and co used to slaughter him about it off-screen, but he stuck to his (and our) guns. The other one I really rate is Pat Nevin. He knows what he's talking about, and he's got good taste in music too.
Shearer isn't just boring. He has basically no understanding of the game of football, beyond "he shouldn't have been offside there" type comments. I'm really tired of the disrespect from the BBC/MotD. Would it really be so hard to spread the time around? Give the big three matches 15 minutes, middle 3 ten minutes and last 4 five minutes... I understand the need to pander to the fans of the "big" clubs, but at least let us other fans see the highlights even if we get no analysis...
BBC Final Score isn't much better either. It seems unless Dempsey scores they have no idea what to say, and even if it is Dempsey they usually just come out with "Yeah, he's in fine form at the moment" it almost appears as if they couldn't name half of our starting eleven if pressed to do so.
A lot more happened in the game than was portrayed on Match of the Day. I think Fulham are middle of the road, boring and not really doing well enough in the eyes of the BBC to warrant anything else than a slot in the last 2 in the programme.
I don't we got much more time in the fabled 09/10 season did we? (albeit we didn't do as well in the league) We're just not cool. I kinda like that though.
Maybe they thought we were given too much coverage during the Europa run and this is their way of punishing us?
It certainly doesn't help that none of the pundits on the BBC have ever played for or managed FFC, unlike Sky where we have the beautiful Georgie Thompson who is a lifelong FFC supporter.
To be fair, Bandy, we didn't get a better shake of the stick when the BBC's main man was Jimmy Hill, and not even on things like Football Focus which covered beyond the top division.
Hmm that is strange. Most pundits find it hard to dismiss their obvious bias toward their affiliated teams. Phil Thompson on Sky is the worst with Liverpool. After reading Jeff Stelling's autobiography I found out that they couldn't have George Best commentating on the Utd games anymore as he would just lose all sense of personality and interest if they failed to win.
In a similar vein, I can remember Ian Wright slumped in his chair and sulking like a child if ever England lost a game that he was punditting on. It also irritates when pundits are reluctant to criticise former team-mates. Robbie Savage irritates me like this (actually, I could have finished that sentence before the 'like this'). On 606 he won't allow anyone to say anything negative against managers or players who he has links with. As an explanation for this, I can only refer people to Bidley's earlier post about Bell-ends. Radio 5Live have a tendency of putting co-commentators on matches where one of the teams is their ex-club (Keown on Arsenal games, Waddle on Newcastle, Claridge on virtually anyone), and some are more obvious than others in their bias. I really enjoy Claridge as a pundit in discussion-shows on 5Live, but he irritates me when he's a co-commentator. Pat Nevin, who I praised earlier, is particularly good at calling it as he sees it, regardless of whether one of the teams is a former employer of his. If I could change one thing about 5Live, it would be to get them to always send neutral co-commentators rather than partial ones. Actually, it would be to get them to employ me on a lucrative contract to provide co-commentary on every Fulham game. I'd be all for partial commentators then.
