Ruff, With the greatest of respect, that is absolute cobblers. As soon as it was a case of 'racism', the press have been after Suarez, drawing inferences from the World Cup handball and 'biting' incidents to summarily find him guilty, even before the FA report was published. Anyone backing him has found it hard to get the same amount of coverage, without being described as 'out-of-touch'. The verdict, in the minds of a lot of people, simply confirmed their opinion that Luis Suarez is scum, without any critical review of the FA's report, or the system that allows them to be prosecutor, judge and jury. As for the T-shirts, yes, it made the situation worse because the media chose to portray it as 'support for a racist', not for a teammate, one of their own... And in relation to Cantona, everyone could see the kick, and if you missed it, it was there in the morning papers for you to enjoy in glorious technicolour. It was unambiguous, regardless of the provocation. United couldn't really say, oh, but it was the camera angle, he only connected gently, it was just some robust 'joshing'... So the circumstances weren't the same. In all honestly, the FA's actions in a situation where the only two people who knew WTF went on was not acceptable. In any situation where its one man's word against another's, no action should have been taken beyond a private meeting between the players and the managers, no-one else. The FA's remit should never have run to (pretty arbitratily, IMO, having read the report) believing one over the other to make a point that something (racism, homophobia, whatever) is unacceptable. But at the end of the day, if you stuck your head above the parapit on behalf of Suarez, you have been labelled a disgrace, or an apologist for a racist (which Suarez is not) and the media have happily run with this line. That the likes of Lord Ouselely, or Jason Roberts, both of whom have approached this from points (as far as I can see) of ignorance of the facts in the case (particularly that most facts haven't been established beyond more likely than not level), means that automatically, if you disagree with them, you're labelled apologist. Sorry, but this still riles me to the extent that I struggle to adequately express my frustration with the system that we are hobbled with using, where there is no separation or independence between the judicial and executive functions of the FA. Or that the FA is allowed to appeal the length of ban for Rooney with FIFA, but clubs can't appeal regarding the length of ban for their players.
Ah not with it this morning. It is throwback month for the Memphis Grizzlies ( hometown and favorite NBA team) and in the old ABA Memphis had a team known as the TAMS. (T)ennessee (A)rkansas (M)ississippi . Pretty original I know but is what it is. Old school so thought I would put in my name as an homage. Really can't get into more Suarez debate. I want his feet to do the talking, I think him, the club, the media, other teams have already talked enough.
*BREAKING NEWS* It has apparently transpired that Manchester United have recently beaten their long time rivals Liverpool 2 – 1 in a tensely fought premiership match at Old Trafford. This result appears to have largely gone unnoticed by the nation’s football fraternity, so can I take this opportunity to say ……… ……… ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! And by the way Suarez is a daft twat!
depends..... if he can put a brace past..... MAN CITY, who are better than your lot defensively then I'm sure if he gets a start and some service he can score 3 out of the 10 chances he ought to get v a championship side. Mind you its far more likely our lads will be thinking of wembley and not bother, conceed then pull thier finger out to scrape 2-1. this is how i know we are unprofessional and expect kenny to live up to his words in my signiture.
Fair enough. We don't agree but fair enough, I don't want to argue and I'm sure in my mind I'm certainly not talking cobblers. My only point is that Liverpool handled it badly. A player found guilty of racial abuse should not have the T shirt support unless the club is prepared to appeal. If they think and are convinced it was the wrong decision, they should appeal. That they did not created a storm. A storm of their own making. Whether the Cantona kick was on TV or not, United handled it correctly. I make this point to contradict the utter nonesense being spouted on your board, not neccessarily as a direct comparison to Liverpool's handling on Suarez. Anyway, nuff said all round really.
ruff... sorry but i did agree the tshirts were a symptom of the club doing badly BUT.... hang on. the TEE SHIRTS WERE DONE BEFORE ANY VERDICT THEY WERE DONE AS A PLAYER SOLIDARITY WHEN HE WAS CHARGED. thats charged not found guilty. lets just keep things straight. the point on appeals or no appeals can and should only apply to a) when lfc released an incensed stement when the verdict was given, prior to us all reading it. this stement was very strong against the fa and the case and inflamed a lot of idiots and sensible people alike. I could say for instance there is grounds to say that idiot at the oldham match used this as an exuse... the fact he wore a knock off tshirt is no reflection on much IMO. b) when they decided not to appeal. thats was again celar they felt it was dead wrong but for the good of the game. you can again argue this was strong. c) when suarez declined to shake the hand. after not appealing he'd no right to do this.his time for this **** had past. thats my firm opnion. the fact you got the timing a little off in your mind shows how easy it is to paint new history.
Yep, got my order a bit skewed but the principle of what I'm saying applies. And that is that........................................blah blah, ill advised. You get the point, the detail was marginally out and doesn't make any diff to the point I was making. Like I said, nuff said. So, I believe there's something happening on Channel five later on this week I hear?
Have you not noticed the Europa League has been deemed worthy of ITV this year now some big clubs are involved in it ? ( I was actually suprised to see this )
We don't get a lick of Europa over here. It used to be played on Fox Soccer when ESPN had all of the CL rights, but now that FSC has the CL rights, Europa went bye bye. Not even sure who is in what these days, feels like forever ago that we were in the CL and Europa when we were in it I cared about. IF Dortmund or Bilbao are in it those are the teams I hope go on. Top managers at each club and some really good players in both camps
No, I knew they had the option as they hijacked Fulham's final year and Liverpool's failed attempt recently. The games are all on at random times spread across 5 and the ITV network.
Channel 5 cup > than the CL It must piss Liverpool fans off a bit that United and City Channel 5 Cup ( best cup in the world ) games may be on ITV.
