The two that I knew go back to a certain era that I remember. I have more trouble recalling who played in our last match.
David Holdsworth BB Gary Cohen was a Watford trainee who went to play with Gretna, but that is all. He was playing at St Albans until 2010.
Probably an easy one for Frenchie this: What do the following former Watford players all uniquely have in common? G. Barnes, H. Bellamy, W.Carter, W. Coutanche, G. Cutts, G. Edmonds, F. Gregory, F. Horsman, J. Johnson, W. Marshall, A. Mummery, F. Pagnam, R. Slade, F. Smith, J. Strain, G. Toone, E.Wallington, C. White, J. Wilkinson and R. Williams.
I only know a few of these names but they all seem to be from about the same era - 1920s. Did they all play at Cassio Road Stadium and at the Vic ?
Well done Cologne - thay have all represented the club in senior competitions at both grounds Here's your prize
Coutanche is a popular name in the Channel Islands - anyone know where he was from? (This is purely my own curiosity, not an actual trivia quiz question)
Can`t answer the question about Wilfred Coutanche I'm afraid - but here are 3 more; 1. Which former Watford players have gone on to manage at International level ? (I can think of 2 at the moment) 2. Who were our Opponents in our last match before the old standing terraces at the Rookery were demolished ? 3. What is the largest crowd that Watford have won in front of (Apart from our 2 play off finals) ?
1. Keith Pritchett and John Barnes, New Zealand and Jamaica. 2. Portsmouth 3. 100.000 FA Cup 1984.I think this is high.
No 3. is the game we played against the Chinese national team. Can't remember the size of the crowd but I remember that the result was broadcast on the BBC news as "China, population 1 billion, 1 - Watford, population 75000, 3".
80,000 in the Peking National Stadium in 1983. I've got some video footage of the match - have been trying unsuccessfully to upload it onto YouTube but there's a copyright problem
Nah, that will be the Chinese government blocking it. They dont want people believing that they might be beaten. They probably show an edited version with the colours of the strips changed so that China are the winners.
It still works. Its like the Korean tv channels showing an edited version of the World Cup footage lol.
Question 1. Correct - Keith Pritchett (New Zealand) and John Barnes (Jamaica) also Fred Pagnam went on to coach the Turkish national team. Question 2. Correct - Portsmouth Question 3. Correct - 82,000 for the game in Peking. The biggest away crowd (As opposed to neutral venues) that we have won a competitive match in front of was over 70,000 against Levski Spartak Sofia.
I suppose we could even include Ken Furphy in that illustrious group - he did manage Team America as well as Bermuda.
