I remember in the 90's, and until recently Clubs hated to make the trip to Elland Road. We were virtually indestructible, and would leave our opponents intimidated fear til the 90th minute. They couldn't wait for the final whistle. If they got so much as a point, they would be delighted with that.

These days, obviously crowds are well down, a lot quieter, but where the hell has all the passion gone. The present team should be made to watch videos of Hunter, Lorimer, Charlton and especially Bremner to show what wearing the Leeds shirt really means. :emoticon-0106-cryin

I know this is only one result, and Redfearn had to contend with 11 men, but surely, for the size of our club, we need an experienced gaffer...

That's why I want Radomir Antic. He knows what he is getting at Leeds, He WANTS the job, he's experienced (Barca, Madrid, Athletico, Serbia) and had success at his postings, he's got a name as a bit of a crisis manager and could turn round things here @ Leeds. Not to mention he likes an exciting attack and a strong defence.

Can't think of too many foreign managers that have succeeded in English football apart from Wenger though, don't you think its a bit of a gamble.

Surely that's because of rising season ticket prices causing departure of fans?

Good Question, why would they not bother going to home games though? That would still give us 19000 more or less quiet fans. Watch videos of 15-20 years ago. The atmosphere, the passion, the buzz...

Reflected across the leagues, we are fairly quite at home but away games are always better in atmosphere, the holy grail is for any club that can replecate away atmosphere at home.

I was at Leeds in -89 we lost 2-1, i had my leg in plaster up to my hip and could not run away as the bricks, bottles & coins came over into the away end courtyard. I know what you mean about intimidating

Maybe they cant afford to do both?. Just a suggestion that maybe some of the most vocal fans dont go to home games no more

I believe they probably were, but maybe luckilyfor us the police won inside the ground that day.

I have a picture in my mind of the double decker bus coming around the corner, no windows on top deck and bodies hanging out of the spaces where the windows are supposed to be, it was like a cage of animals being transported to a zoo. We were lined up against the wall outside the away end like POw's in the war.

<laugh> My old RS A-Level teacher was part of the Ipswich traveling supporters at that fateful game back in '07. She got hit in the head by a coin, and said it put her faith in God to the test. She always used to bring it up when I annoyed her. <laugh>

    Back to the thread title

Elland used to be a fortress, a very difficult place for fans and teams to play, but with your current owner, then lack of enthusiasm has crept in, crowds have dropped and this will only reverse with change at the top.

I was part of the home support that day and let's just say the vast majority of us weren't best pleased with the pitch invaders.

I think Warnock is the man to bring back the fiery edge which Leeds thrive on. Antic/Di Matteo would play some boring pussy tippy-tappy football which no-one except the bore-, sorry, purists want to watch. Under Grayson and Redfearn, we still put in some meaty challenges to be fair, but the pressure from midfield is nowhere near good enough. If we had a younger Michael Brown or actually played Pugh in his natural position, I think that would be much improved.

The crowd also have a role to play in the intimidating atmosphere though, and that's been sorely lacking since the scum game. If we could sing and act like that every game, it would give us a huge help. Sadly it's not going to happen from the Kop which is now full of women and kids who should be in a concessions area rather than the stand which is meant to help us boom out our support.

I say Warnock but it is a little like Redknapp with England, if not Warnock who? I don't want to see Clark here, he hasn't done anything and he has had better backing than Grayson. Although I would prefer to see Davies or Jones over Ince, Bruce or Keane I don't really want to see them in charge. We haven't a cat in hells chance of Lambert and I doubt Bates will go for anyone employed and risk paying compensation so that leaves Antic as my second choice mainly because he would be a no lose gamble. We are not going up with Redfearn in charge so we might as well take a gamble on Antic if Warnock is a non starter.
