He strikes me as being a bit shy. I remember seeing him and Andy Keogh on Soccer AM when they were both at Scunthorpe. Keogh did most of the talking. (What a partnership that was by the way).
He's a quality player. The only frustration is that it took till the end of the transfer window to get him. Unfortunately we made a mistake chasing Hooper and waiting on Celtic to give in, which was never going to happen. I think if we had Sharpe from early Jan we would be a few points better off and he'd now be a fully functional cog in the machine.
While extremely happy to get him I did wonder whether he'd be the right fit, but from the sounds he was pretty dangerous playing off of Lambert, and should get more so as he becomes accustomed to the players around him. Between he, Lallana, Lambert, Lee and the rest, we should have no difficulty scoring goals...if we play as well defensively as we did yesterday, we'll be difficult to beat.
If I am being totally honest, the only reason I was excited by his transfer was because of the headlines he made and the praise he recieves. I can't recall actually ever watching him live on tv/or in a stadium. Nonetheless I was still excited by his move and thought it would be a great partnership with Lambert, despite not knowing a great deal about him. Yesterday he looked bright, made runs, had a great touch and control, and looked to get in behind. Seemed like he is a quality player.
A good sixty minutes. Looks like the amalgamation of Barnard & Connolly. With strength and good 1st touch. Encouraging link up with Cork and looks desperate to score goals
The only reason I'm worried about him is because our Nige said that he has a few niggles. Could be part of the reason he came of after 60mins.
overweight?! he looks like the perfect centre foward, big strong muscley, why would you want to make him effectively less stronger?
He actually considers himself to be a bit overweight. As Godders said, Rickie was overweight [actually considerably so - hence the who ate all the pies chants from past seasons], but first Pardew and then Adkins got him down to being a little whipper-snapper where, did my eyes deceive me yesterday, Rickie took on a fullback, out wide and tricked his way past him..! We all know that Rickie can actually play a bit [that's an obvious understatement], but now he's added more trickery and a nice bit of initial pace to his game. What I'm saying is, Adkins will improve Sharp until he's a damn sight sharper [oop, sorry].
Was very impressed with Lambert's skills in highlights on Player. Didn't know he had that side to his game. NA certainly gets the best out of players.
Very early on in his Saints career, Rickie showed that he had extremely skilful feet. He would actually make a fine midfielder if he wasn't such a good striker. Now, at the correct weight, Rickie's got the elephant off his back, so to speak, and can show us what he can do a little more.
Yeah, I once read he started out as a midfielder. Then I tried to go and check that out and couldn't find a reference to it, so I thought I'd got my Wikis mixed up.
I thought Sharp was great yesterday, and him and Rickie already look like they are working well together. Rickie is the best player in the championship for me, jesus christ he was good yesterday. Does he put glue on his boots/chest/head? He wins and controls everything when he is in the mood. Unbelievable. With sharp running off him we are an absolute force.
