Suarez shook hands with everyone else no matter what their race, colour (or religion even).

    He didn't shake with Evra.

He simply made a personal statement regarding Evra.

So what? He broke no laws in his failure.

    Whts the problem?

Why are our newspapers, radio, internet forums and television being dominated by two of footballs most objectionable characters not shaking hands?

The only reason i'm pissed off now about the actions of Luis Suarez is that i'm finding it so bleeding difficult to avoid hearing about it and for that reason he should be shot

There's definitely more to this than meets the eye, hence why I find it impossible to take a side as it were...

    Joe

I am in 100% agreement with you on this. For ince, I feel myself supporting the comments made by Sir Alex. Kenny Dalglish has made Liverpool a disgrace to the game for his continued support of Suarez. I've said previously on this board that lLverpool should have been deducted three points as soon as the player started to wear t-shirts in support of this racist. i think that the three points should definately come off following the latest incident and , not forgetting that football is supposed to be a sport and about sportsmanship, believe that Suarez should serve a length ban or even get kicked out of the game.

Many clubs have supported the "Kick racism out of football" campaign but the latest incident demnstrates that big clubs like Liverpool still have a long way to go. No wonder black supporters are quitting this team in droves over their disgraceful conduct.

I think there may of been some hesitancy from Evra regards the shake, but he was willing to do it as a professional from what I saw. The onus was rightly on Suarez, and I think that his decision is a disgrace to liverpool for this petulant behaviour. I agree with Joe that the racism issue should be at the forefront if these incidences are occuring regularly which they seem to be at the moment, it isn't acceptable, racism isn't acceptable.

Indeed, the premier league does seem to have the pantomine element to it, but its nice to see newly promoted Norwich and Swansea getting headlines for the right reasons.

A question I would like to pose though, is this. As we do not know exactly what was said is this about being PC. Or was the comments that were made just about two people getting into a spat and in the heat of the moment just exchanging a few home truths? As can often happen in sports that would normally end in a hand shake at the end. When we had the very first overseas races coming on to our football fields there was quite a lot of racist remarks going around. However usually these guys could normally give as good as they got. I don't ever remember any one being reported to the authorities because of such exchanges. As a result over a very short time the abuse stopped. However because a few disparaging remarks are being exchanged more in the heat of the moment I feel. It would seem that perhaps everything is being blown once again out of proportion. It would seem that we have a few prima Donna's who feel they should be given first class treatment on the field as well as off.
To be truthful I don't know what it is like for someone to call my race or colour into question but in other ways have many a time had my parentage called into question and yes even my colour. Neither of which has particularly bothered me. It has just spurred me on to make sure the accuser is on the losing side, (or maybe he goes home limping) I just hope the bloody thing dies out and not too much more is made of the whole thing. It is after all about 2 people that clearly do not like each other. Both players shook hands with every one else except each other so bloody what!!

well from what i know about Evra being a whiny bitch his whole career, im not sure that the racism charges were true. So if i was Suarez and i got an 8 match ban for something i did not do, i wouldn't shake the mans hand who lied to get me banned.

There does seem to be a fair few incidents at the moment, which would suggest that there is an issue, and/or things have resurfaced? In that case, it needs to be tackled.

Allegedly there is some confusion as to the name calling that Suarez used, in that it is not offensive in Uruguay. Having spent a little time in Nicaragua, there is a phrase there which is 'chele' which means whitey, and isn't used offensively, and is ironic (which does fit the humour there) in that the people there are not white but mestizo, a mix of indigenous and spanish colonialist. I'm not sure if the phrase 'negrito' (I think that that is the term that was used by Suarez, but correct me if I'm wrong) is used in that way as he claims.

However, I would be surprised if he did not know that in this country (and indeed Holland) that this phrase would be offensive, and apparently it was used again and again, you would imagine to offend?

With reagrds to being PC, I'm aware that some people think it has gone mad (and I'm sure there are some silly incidences) but I would suggest that racism is an issue that needs to be tackled in a increasingly multi cultural society.

"There are none so blind as them that cannot see."

This is no longer about racism, its about sportsmanship and fit and proper conduct.
Fact: The FA found Suarez guilty of an offence for which he served his punishment.
Fact: After that closure, Suarez has clearly responded negatively and in an un-sportsmanlike manner. He has not moved on.

Any reference to the Cantona incident merely emphasises just exactly how the behaviour of Suarez is undesirable. If I recall correctly, Cantona served both his footballing and judicial punishment and moved on by not only playing brilliant football, but by profiling a highly positive wider image for football (including TV and movie exposure to this effect). He retook his place as a sportsman and as a member of society.

Suarez's behaviour, on the other hand. is that of someone who shows no respect for the game, or his fellow professionals. There is no contrition, and it makes you wonder whether he still harbours the belief that racist comments/behaviour are acceptable in English football. No right thinking person can find that acceptable - either on the pitch or in wider society.

From what I saw, Ferguson's uproar was about the unsporting incident yesterday - apart from, that is, the logical comment that, if Suarez was innocent of his original offence, where was the Liverpool appeal against his punishment?

Not a good day for English football and definitely not a good day for Liverpool Football Club.

Why? The guy's a **** and should be deported. Straight after the 8 match ban he deliberately kicks Parker in the stomach, should have been a straight red and 4 match ban. Now this. And that's without mentioning his past history before the 8 match ban. He should be deported

Couldn't agree more Beddy, its got completely out of hand and should not have been allowed too. I recall Evra making the same, false, accusations of the Chelsea groundsmen or ground staff not so long ago?

He admitted to using the words and was found guilty by a 4 man panel. Doesn't really leave much doubt does it?

For all their support, Liverpool didn't appeal...says it all. That's the problem with rushing to defend someone before a court hears evidence. SFC have said they will give Barney all the help he needs but they haven't come out and said he is innocent. Wait until evidence is presented.

Why don't the authorities just scrap the formality of handshakes before a game, we all know that certain players have issues with each other and a hypocritical handshake isn't going to stop scores being settled. If they want to shake hands for a game well played it's done at the end.
A player should want to shake a players hand, not be told to. Which brings me to Fergie, although he was supposed to give interviews to the BBC and until very recently he refused to because he didn't want to, so By his standard if you don't want to do something that is expected you don't do it. Suarez obviously didn't want to shake Evras hand.

From what I was told yesterday, Squarez pointedly refused to shake Evra's hand. Then I watched the incident from a different camera angle. There you can clearly see that Evra drops his hand to a lower level, as if he is half-hearted or unsure about whether to shake Squarez's hand. Squarez does himself no favours by clearly passing to the next player to handshake. BUT, and it's a big but, so I made it so - Squarez may have taken Evra's half-heartedness [if I read that right] as a sign to not shake hands OR [and it's a big or], that Evra's half-heartedness was enough to switch off any desire from Squarez to shake hands.

Remember people, these are only youngish adults, in the glare of the media gaze. I suspect, if they could re-run the initial events from yesterday, they'd be shaking hands and getting the situation over and done with. As it happened, nobody came out of it covered in glory. Squarez probably should have grabbed Evra's hand; Evra shouldn't have been half-hearted with the handshake gesture; he also shouldn't have whipped up the crowd immediately post-match; and tbh, worst of all, Fergie should not have commented on what Liverpool should or should not do with a player. That was astonishingly poor behaviour, and he should know better than to play psychological game points with such a subject.

On the subject of pre-match handshaking, who suggested it in the first place..? It seems to me that the more forced a situation becomes, the less genuine it actually is. Years ago, players did not shake hands before a match. That was left to the captains and officials in the centre circle. And that's the way it should be, if anyway way at all.

As I said above, Suarez has apologized for not shaking Evra's hand. There's no equivocation from Liverpool. Suarez said he would shake hands and then didn't, so there's really no point in making excuses for him. Even dalgleish has apologized for how he spoke to the Sky reporter who interviewed him.

He's got his hand quite low down for every handshake, and though he does move it in a bit, he is still clearly offering it to Suarez. Suarez has his hand by his side the entire time. If he'd had his hand out, there would have been a handshake.
