http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sp...lden_chance_to_silence_Adkins_wasted/?ref=rss I'd be interested in your opinions on this- both Saints and Cherries fans. I wasn't at the game myself, but my understanding is that we deserved it, though 3-1 may have flattered us slightly. Now fair enough if the reporter is saying that, but what exactly has Adkins done (or said) to invite this kind of vitriol? Maybe his style isn't to everyone's liking (you can imagine him doing his team talks with a PowerPoint presentation!) but I'd suggest he is a lot LESS mouthy than most managers out there. I have no great hatred of Bournemouth- in fact they should be congratulated on the last couple of seasons- so why all this hate towards us? It would be great to see us, Pompey and Bournemouth in the Championship so we could have those kind of derbies more frequently. Unfortunately there will always be a few idiots (on all sides) who take things beyond banter- but when the press are creating real hate with disrespectful articles like this I can't really see anything but trouble as a result.
Arrrghhhh it angers me to read that! Soooo soooo bitter. What a pathetic low life reporter! All they ever bang on about is resources blah blah blah! We know that! We also know we have fallen from grace! Get a life! Pathetic idiot! RANT OVER! PS! Any consolodating Bmouth fans need a talk - call 0800 2-0 2-0 3-1 COYRs
look remember it is papers trying to sell their papers...they also want people to bite!!! The game i have said was very even, i think all stas prove that and the Saints 2nd goal had a big impact on the game..... we had a penalty appeal turned down, and also hit the bar, when we we still in it, Saints won and that is fair enough...... good luck for the rest of the season....
As always very honest! If i am honest.... the reaction and attitude from the Bournemouth fans at st marys this season made me want to win this game more than anything! But the bottom line is, Bournemouth fans loved it whilst they were above us and as expected were rubbing it in ..... but Saints fans were realistic but a tad jeaslous! I do hope all 3 south coast clubs go up, but as we sung.... we dont really care about Bournemouth. Theyve always been to me a local club that imo we have done alot for. Dont understand the hatred. I feel you hate us alot more than we hate you The article prionted is very similar to the previous ones from the same paper. Bitter, twisted and using the same old excuses. Its a fact - the echo's are useless!
I wouldn't disagree with any of that bpl, but I still think that papers need to show a bit more responsibility. (Though maybe I'm just jealous because your local paper is right behind you, whereas all we seem to do is fight with ours...!) At the end of the day it's got to be the best result that we both go up if possible- raises the profile of football on the south coast as a whole, which leads to better players wanting to join both clubs etc.
" who was a good three yards offside. Although World Cup final linesman Darren Cann flagged, referee Andre Marriner quickly overruled his assistant and the goal rightly stood. " How does that make sense?
Officially this reporter goes down as nothing but a absolute "pillock" Quote such as "In truth, Saints won ugly and the scoreline flattered them" "With Radhi Jaidi and Jose Fonte doing their best Laurel and Hardy impressions at the heart of the Saints defence, the visitors looked vulnerable as Dalla Valle and Danny Ings led them a merry dance" "The final whistle was greeted with wild celebrations from visiting supporters, with players and management on the Saints bench jumping up as if they had won the cup final." WHAT A COMPLETE MORON! NOW KINGSLANDSFC RANT: Southampton F.C and Fans jumped and celebrated in delights as its a rival game ...and we won! (Closing the gap on 2nd) ...PRAT! The dig at Jaidi and Fonte - Not fair...at all. Ok Jaidi could have been better but uncalled for to say that it was Laurel and Hardy impression. If Cherries scored more than 1 then that quotation could be justified. The score flattered us - erm no ....The Cherries had chance which they did not execute ...instead Southampton came out with all guns blazing at 2nd half and got 2 goal to seal a defiant victory. My god and I thought the Daily Echo was bad: 1/10 for this biased article. Absolute poor journalism! RANT OVER! I really wish Bournemouth all the best tho - would like to see them in Championship with us!
So...! Who cares! The article just goes to prove that not only are the fans, players and club staff bitter in defeat, but also the local media are Ignore them. It only makes them look worse
Hang on the staff of have been honest and so have the players. Nothing they have said has been out of turn. If i had to have a pop at something with Saints i dont think the managerhelps himself with some of his comments (this is not bitterness, but he is not always gracious in defeat)..Your Cortese on the otherhand has done well However the media know how to get a reaction and that is what they want. with our fans, remember some have gone way over the top, but they are looking for some sort of reaction, but when we were in front of you a bit of banter was allowed
I believe that a large amount of users on not606 would make better journalists in their arguments to the lexical usage of pieces. It is not the Bournemouth Echo that I am jealous of in coverage of the local team, but the Portsmouth News, which to be honest has done nothing but support the club and give the fans intelligent, in-depth analysis of the situations and matches at Pompey (as best as it is possible to do so anyway). It is unproffessional however to allow a responsible journalist for an influential media outlet (for the area) to write such a misleading, and ultimately inflamatory article. For example, Perrett points out how "Asked whether 3-1 had been a fair reflection, Adkins replied: “Listen, we played Walsall the other day, had 27 shots at goal and got beaten 1-0. It’s about winning from here on in.” ". If this man had a relatively strong concept of football, he would understand the wisdom of Adkin's point. Success in football is often due to clinicalism and luck, yet it is perseverence that brings them. Saints could not be more deserving of the result, as by failing to capitalise to the chances, and seeing the reaction of the Bournemouth players upon conceding, they failed to live up to this 'big event'. As for claiming that we falsely deny a rivalry, as some above have said many of us wish Bournemouth to do well, behind Saints of course. If Bournemouth fans really believed in a rivalry, perhaps they could have done slightly more than allow our fans to dominate the atmosphere from the start? All the best Bournemouth, but with this newly acquired attitude towards Southampton expect no sympathy if only two of the three south coast clubs of this division go up.
Saints player cleared it, rebounded off another Saints player into Dalla Valle. Bournemouth goal was rightly given
Guys there has been a lot of criticism regarding the Bournemouth echo. Just as there has of our local rag. Just remember the Bournemouth Echo are catering for Bournemouth people which is it's main duty on the sports side. The head lines down this end should read Something in the region of "Bang goes Eddie Mitchells dream". and should be supporting the Saints side that carved out a victory. I haven't seen the echo headlines yet but no doubt it will be a bit weak with a few lines telling everyone about the goals and the fact that most of the goals were lucky or some such. Then there will be ream after ream saying about the Bournemouth goal how it wasn't offside how the players ran up to the referee. Then it will discuss the fact that there should of been a penalty that would have turned the game in Bournemouth's favour, then it will have another page on the bad tackle and sending off. That is probably a page on its own!!! I know I have exagerated what is likely to have been said. Truly though, I have never known the paper be so negative of a saints side before, and I have been reading that ruddy rag longer than most that work there have been alive!!!
Look it causes conversations, issues, talking points and sells papers................and Beddytare you are right they know what they are doing.. It will discuss everything, proberly similar to when you lost to man Utd, saying if, buts and maybes but end of the day you lost, and the same with us on Saturday. The excuses etc in the paper, we can look at them with confidence as the game was finely balanced for a long time, and with a little bit of luck things could have been different, so we will take positives and we didnt not get battered like we did at your place in the league..... I think Adkins comments without having to say it in words, knows how close it was - and i think those sort of games are more enjoyable to win rather than sometimes when you are not given a game... The paper will use this as a way to envalginse the team and suppoters unilt the end of the season.
I agree with bpl (again). Local papers are there to get behind their teams. I think we'd all accept a bit of bias in local papers or the clubs official sites (and let's be honest, our OS isn't above it!), but I just thought this article was taking things way too far. The point about Adkins was particularly interesting to me- is he really perceived as mouthy by other clubs? He always struck me as more of a librarian type.....! Off the top of my head I can think of a dozen managers who are far more mouthy (I'm still waiting for Ian Hollway to go through with his threat to resign!)
The News always gets behind Pompey no matter what state they are/were in. The Daily Echo only follows Saints, doesn't neccesarily do anything other than provoke stories and write cheap articles...
