Tottenham 5 Newcastle 0 Four first half goals blew Newcastle away as yet another miserable trip to London ended our recent spell of good form. Our latest capitulation in the capital came when ex-Magpie Louis Saha scored twice in an opening 20 minutes when the roof fell in for Alan Pardew's under strength side. Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye were conspicuous by their absence and Spurs took full advantage as they tore apart a flimsy-looking defence. United were two down after just five and a half minutes with Benoit Assou-Ekotto firing into an empty net in the fourth minute and then Saha side-footing home just 90 seconds later. On an evening when little went right for the Magpies, a handball shout against Emmanuel Adebayor was denied and shortly after Saha helped himself to a second when more sloppy defensive work was punished. And it got worse when Tim Krul saved from Adebayor only to see the prone forward still manage to get a touch that fell to Niko Kranjcar who thumped in the fourth with just 34 minutes played. Still doesn't me its not embarrassing, people have paid good money to go down there and watch and truly pathetic display, in a game we deserved to lose by 7 or 8.
Three points and probably the confidence that the team had built up. Are we going to be able to pick ourselves up and continue as we were before today's performance?
we were lucky they took their foot off the pedal, was an extremely poor day for us. Oh well, Cabaye and Tiote back next week. Hopefully the lads can use this as a little pick me up.
Yeah, just got to keep the faith. We have a great team of individuals, who's day it most definitely wasn't. We were outclassed, yes. But i expect us to come back fighting.
just go down to centre for life and all ok! good luck lads 4th could be yours, we've got Arsenal and we'll hopefully beat them
Haha, yes we could hardly pass the ball to another player today. It was really horrible to watch us get torn apart, I hope the players got a real wake up call. We played the wrong tactics, but Tottenham are a great team and are really pushing up the league. Whereas we are still the "surprise package" even though we have a good team as well. Feel sorry for the people who traveled down to watch the game.
obv soft spot for newcastle as uni there and married a geordie, worst time there i was in castle leazes halls when we lost 7-1 could hear it all! again good luck for the rest
I went and I am seriously pissed off with the poor performance. Feel sorry most for people like the guy sitting next to me who paid £80 on travel alone and that's not including the underground - I go to Uni locally so am one of the luckier ones but still annoyed I wasted all my time and money in the freezing cold. I woulda accepted a 2-1 defeat but 5-0!? Ferguson was the only player for me who seemed interested in going for it.
To be fair he wasn't great but he was deffo not as bad as the rest .. he come on and actually looked like he really cared, compared to guti who looked uninterested, was too annoyed and disheartened when something went wrong.
