Just a different point of view on the Suarez - Evra row. Whatever was said between Suarez and Evra in the original incident is done and in the past, so after serving his punishment, why should he be forced to shake Evra's hand? Surely its up to him whether to shake somebodies hand or not. Other questions must be asked, such as if Evra was truly as insulted by whatever was said by Suarez, why was he happy to shake his hand? Also I think ole' Bacon Face has got a cheek coming out saying that Suarez should never play for Liverpool again! This is a man who continued to back a player who Kung-Fu kicked a fan, continued to back a player who went out and intentionally ended another players career. Who still continues to back a player who failed to turn up for a drugs test? What's everybody's opinion?
Eric Cantona kicked a fan who was shouting racial abuse at him, and who later turned out to be a BNP member. Cantona claims to this day that it was the proudest moment of his career, and I applaud him for that. As for the Suarez thing, it is not in the past and nor should it be. We should not just be forgiving and forgetting racism, whether in football or not. We should be highlighting the issue and going on and on about it until it is gone for good. As for Fergie, he has not been the slightest bit hypocritical. In both incidences he has spoken out against racism and defended his players who were on the receiving end of said racism. In this incidence, I agree with him fully. If Suarez was a Saints player, I would want him sold/banned immediately.
Never thought i'd hear the words Evra not wanting to stir up ****. i'm not condoning what was allegedly said by Suarez, but Evra is no saint and from what i've seen he was also going to refuse to shake Suarez's hand.
Have and its hard to tell, looks to me like he pulls it away slightly so Suarez does the same. My opinion is that it's all got out of hand, but i am rather amazed at your justification of Eric Cantona flying kicking a football fan.
I'd love to kick a BNP member, perhaps more than anything else in the world. He shouldn't have done it, for the sake of his team, but it's still pretty damn cool.
So it's not hypocritical for Bacon Face to call for the sale of a player for refusing to shake somebodies hand, but continue to give the captains armband who intentionally ended somebodies career.
He called for the sale of Suarez for the entire racism thing, not just the handshake. If you're referring to Roy Keane's tackle on Alf-Inge Haaland, that is not what ended Haaland's career. He actually finished that game and played the next game. He retired soon after because he had had a long term knee injury which he had never managed to fully recover from.
Doesn't make it right to go onto a football pitch with the intentions of 'hurting' somebody. Ended his career arguably not, played a part in the end of his career? Undoubtedly.
He wasn't actually deemed to have hurt him intentionally until he later admitted to it in his biography. He was then banned for a further 5 games and fined £150,000. He had initially been banned for three games.
Not debating the ban, debating how hypocritical it is for somebody who continued to back someone like Roy Keane to call for Liverpool to sell somebody based on the refusal of a handshake or an ALLEGED insult.
Racism is not comparable to the Roy Keane thing. Keane was injured for almost a year after Haaland's tackle on him by the way.
Halland didn't tackle Keane, Keane tried hacking out Haaland and hurt himself doing it, hence why he was booked for it Glad i could be of educational use.
Suarez not only behaved badly again, he has embarassed Liverpool (whatever they say in public). Evra told Ferguson before the match that he didn't want to shake Suarez's hand but he would because he was going to be professional about it. He has been insulted again...remember Suarez admitted the original offence and Liverpool did not appeal (common sense having prevailed). I have always liked Liverpool and disliked ManU, but Suarez is a disgrace and Liverpool have painted themselves into a corner. P.s. Also think Roy Keane's actions were deplorable. Remember when he did that tackle it was ages after original incident not in the heat of the moment. Borders on the psychotic.
The premier league has become a pantomime complete with its villains and ugly sisters ie Fergy and Kenny D there is no integrity to be found the headlines never concern the football and if we go up we will need to get used to it and though natural ambition wants us to be there I think its a less pleasant place than it was when we were last there which is not that long ago. Maybe Nigel can teach them some ethics and humility and also by giving them the odd flash of his very best manic grin
It will interesting to see what happens should Lee Barnard be convicted. Is a players conduct off the pitch more important than on it. Certainly the Cantona kick was less serious than the offence of which Lee is accused. IMO Roy Keane should have been banned from football for life. He's an animal and should have no place in sport.
