Having seen 4 matches either postponed or abandoned so far this weekend i have been thinking.... Surely undersoil heating is a must in the Championship. At the Ipswich stadium there is none and they rely on covers and hot air blowers to prevent the ground from freezing, but after passing an inspection at 1:00 the pitch quickly began to freeze again and by 3:40 the referee felt that a 10 yard strip was unplayable and called the match off.

Also at London Road the Peterborough V West ham game was called off due to a frozen pitch. There was approximately 4/5 inches of snow on Thursday night which volunteers had to help clear before the covers could be lifted to inspect the pitch. But again, no undersoil heating and a frozen pitch on match day!!

The same at Barnsley and Crystal Palace!!

So my arguement is that it should be a requirement that all clubs have some form of undersoil heating in some way shape or form.

Yep, a bit like seating...though Posh doesn't have that either! ;)...

Definitely i think it's embarrassing for clubs that have to postpone matches in the Championship...i'm glad we don't have the problem, though our health and safety peeps are a little bit too stringent at times!

I think it needs to be made manditory, but so as not to disadvantage individual clubs you would have to give teams until the end of their existing pitch's life span to comply (5-10 years in most cases).

But to be honest it's already a big disadvantage not to have it. If the worst of the winter strikes during a concentrated group of fixtures, you could easily find yourselves with three or four games to fit into an already busy schedule, like we did in our first season under Malky. Meanwhile, your rivals hardly have any midweek games, and are fresher going into games where they need to pick up points.
