not liking this one...Bas might not be the right owner for us...but this makes me feel uncomfortable. Maybe it's the fear of the unknown! Sometimes, better the devil you know rings true :)

Hon how did you feel when EJ appeared at Watford or some of the people after. Another Italia after Gianluca Vialli the Russo brothers or Laurenzo Bassini will make no difference. The advantage over LB is we will have a record to look at and an idea of where the money comes from.

Trotta is on the bench at Fulham so that may be the end of that one. Premier League teams seem to be stockpiling strikers, DJ Campbell must be about 6th choice at QPR now if he's fit.

But that's only if we know the money will be spent...:)

Apparently there's some kind of hold up...or a stumbling block...:(

There are rumours flying about, but we haven't made an approach to buy Watford.

    http://www.football-italia.net/node/15600?

I could read it as we are looking, but haven't done anything formal yet.

Yesterday Jon Marks was talking about it on 3CR and seemed to say that it could be true or not true because Baz tells him nothing. The invitation to our owner still stands to do a radio programme, but despite his New Year promise nothing seems likely.

In parliament you cannot be arrested for what you say, regardless of accuracy and regardless of potential damage. Which is just as well, because otherwise we'd be locking up the key players of all the main parties. If an MP were to say something about Baz that he didn't like, media types could then report it, use lines such as "Bassini has yet to confirm live on air whether or not this is true", and thus compel him to do an interview.

Helguson & Smith to Watford till the end of the season with an option to buy. Mariappa to QPR for 2.5m.

Giampaolo will buy Watford from Bassini. He is expected to bring in Alan Curbishley or Mick Macarthy as a replacement for Sean Dyche with Zola as the assistant.

Heiðar and Tommy is old news and will not go away. The AM bit is new but not enough.

We will need help if we get Alan Curbishley. Mick McCarthy I like but we already have SD.

I don't want the club to be sold so that names can be brought in. Names cost money and spending money in this division doesn't work. Leicester, Notts Forest, Pompy, Sheffield United and us in the Vialli era and the money we spent on hefalumpington leaves a horrendous debt if it doesn't work. I don't want to see old players coming in either. Since they are at the end of their careers each year their form and ability will decrease and they are on good money.
I think the sustainable way forward is the academy. Now the younger players are beginning to emerge so in this respect we have a 4 or 5 year start on other clubs. Was there 8 or 9 Middlesborough academy players in their game against Sunderland tlast week?

The independence that the academy gives also provides much more hope for the future. There is no reason why we cannot be a top 10 club ( in this division ) supported by our academy.

Names like Curbishly, McCarthy and Zola will not be prepared to develop a club over the medium term. They will want momey to spend immediatly for immidiate results. Money seems to be everybody's answer to everything. I think there are alternatives with much less downside if things go belly up.

As long as Heidar and Tommy are still playing they will always be linked with a return to us. My only fear is a potential new take over, we seem to be a little more stable these days. No-one is jumping up and down for Baz's head and the team under SD are just starting to show their true potential. I'd like to see the current team, board and owner finish this season and see how well they have performed. We all thought we'd be scrapping around relegation but if we can carry on as we are, we might (possibly) be finishing in the top half and that in my eyes is a result!!

I can't follow the logic of a takeover AND the managerial change suggested. The Giampaolo rumour was going before McCarthy was sacked so that bit, at least, is made up. Zola is Italian so a tenuous link is made there and Curbishley is linked with every job going, and this silly rumour has created a job vacancy that doesn't exist.

Another day and another take over rumour

    21 Feb 2012 21:30:24
I have it on good authority that Bassini agreed to sell Watford today to a Malaysian consortium. This will not be officially announced for a couple of weeks.

    And another loan

    21 Feb 2012 15:22:57
Watford rumour......Will Keane from Man Utd will be also going to Watford on a 3 month loan by the end of this week.

We can only hope he is a striker, or that he is coming here? ;)

To be honest, his striking record is nowhere near as impressive as Ryan Noble's <whistle>

I have problems understanding why somebody would want to buy a football club when they have no connection to the local area or have followed a team for a long time. I can understand SEJ as he was a boy from the next town and went to see the team play when he was young but not business mans from Ísland or Birmingham buying West Ham United or Americans with Manchester United and Liverpool. I can see the desire to control something which might make a lot of money because of TV and the sale of tshirts and the wish to be seen connected to a successful sports team, but football in England is very odd as it does not compare to football in Germany or France or Spain where the owners of a club are genreally locals (German clubs), members of sports clubs (Spanish) or in some cases companies (Bayer Leverkusen Lokomotiv Leipzig or PSV Eindhoven).

Laurence Bassini I can almost understand as he is quite local to Watford and at a short distance the Russo brothers, Gianni Paladini is a mystery. Where does he live, why did he try to buy Coventry City less than seven days after leaving QPR, why rumours linking him to Watford?

If the person is not a fan, and the club is loss-making, I'd generally say they are one of two things. They either have a very large ego and want the recognition of owning a football club, or they fully believe they can improve a team's fortunes and make them successful (ego would also come into this)

At the moment, Bas is coming across as soemone who generally wants to improve Watford, on and off the pitch, although most of the priorities in the short term are off. I'm sure within a year we will find out if it was a failed ego trip or a genuine attempt!
