    Some things he didn't get.

It left me with a little bit of bad feeling. It was always tempered with gratitude for pulling us back from the edge.

But....He saved us. He did exactly what he said he would.

    Some story really.

Some people like to take pot shots at McCann but he did exactly what he said he would:

Get the clubs finances in order
    Build a stadium
Build a squad capable of winning titles/trophies
    Sell the club
    Make a profit
    And GTF out of town

I have no problem with that... It's about time he got some recognition at CP. A bust, a plaque, name a section/stand etc

Wee Fergus is as important to Celtic as Jock Stein. Maybe more so.

    Guilty.

i can stand over the criticisms but I do take the points on board. Hindsight and observing the basket case on the wrong side of the tracks has really given things a bit of perspective.

Speaking STRICTLY as a neutral I just want to say that your choice of clips is superb! I only wish some RFC fans would look at them and compare and contrast their club's current position with that of CFC when The Bunnet made his move. The man was upfront with the board (as it is was when he moved in), he spoke to the fans and the media, AND the players could voice their opinions too. The whole takeover process was transparent from beginning to end. A similar but less turbulent scenario was played out when Eddie Thomson wrestled control of my club from Jim McLean's board but once again the new buyer was upfront with everyone associated with Utd and the move went through. even in the aftermath of that deal Jim McLean has a stand named after him at Tannadice and all us Arabs gave him a standing ovation when the man did his lap of honour - let me reframe that last word - it was a lap of HONOUR!! RebelBhoy: you have a career in PR ahead of you - if you ain't involved in it already.

the bunnet was wonderful for Celtic, some of us will never forget that.

He made money too but so what, Whyte's not exactly in it for the love of the game or his "club" either

Just because McCann was a hero for Celtic doesn't mean to say he was faultless. There were times when I didn't exactly agree with him, but you knew that his integrity was beyond reproach.

His business acumen was excellent, his judgement sound and the results he obtained in the financial side of the business were beyond what most, if not all, fans had hoped for. His greatest gift to Celtic, I feel, was to leave us with a board and a set-up that means that we would never re-visit the edge of the abyss that the Kelly's and Whyte's took us to.

All of what McCann achieved though was done through the fans. It was the fans who protested against the old board and put the pressure on, causing them to fold. It was the fans who bought into his vision with their own hard cash. As much as other fans want to bluster about being loyal to their team, Celtic fans have shown what can be done if you put your money where your mouth is. You just have to have the balls to stand up and be counted.

I always liked Fergus. I was only 10 when he bought the club, my first two seasons going to games were at the old CP and the old Hampden.

What a difference to see the new stadium when it opened.
