Absolutely no surprise here then! Without wanting to sound like a broken record, why wasn't this decided last night? I just drove past a load of lads waiting for the Charlton Express Coach in Dartford. Hope they didn't get too far north!

Agreed, jimbob - an absolute no-brainer, this one.

Pity us and MK are going into Tuesday night's game cold. Won't affect the result, but it might affect the quality.

    We'll certainly be cold!!!! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wouldn't surprise me if its off too. Its not got above freezing here today yet and we're going to need a couple of day's thaw to have a chance. The fixture backlog could end up being a challenge. I'm not happy as I'm having surgery in two weeks time so I'm going to miss a couple of months worth of games!!!

Sorry to hear that - hope things go well and take it steady when you're getting back up to speed.

Just back from the jolly boys outing round the M25 - We just reached the M1 before the coaches had to turn around.

Can someone explain why we called the Rochdale game off at 9am last week yet it took Chesterfield an extra hour to decide this week??

Cheers lads. I'll be relying on some good banter on here to cheer me up. I'm having a joint in my foot fused. Old footy injury that's caught up with me 30 years later! Won't be able to go to games for a couple of months in case it gets trodden on. Hopefully will make the final run in. I may be posting even more drivel than normal!

Bad organisation/communication it sounds like - they must have known when the official coaches were leaving, surely they could have rustled up a stray FA official, even if they couldn't get hold of the ref and linos.

Is that twenty notes down the Swannee for the fare, A4L or is there a refund system?

Doesnt take much effort from Chesterfield Officials to go on the Charlton O/S to see when the coaches are departing does it

I'm also wondering if the referee was like D'Urso at the Southampton game and just didnt want the game to go ahead especially as a Football League Official was happy to give the green light yesterday (though I will concede I cant claim to know what its like up there at the moment)

tbh I wont bother with a refund for the Coach as its a bit of extra money for the club (and providing its not on Tues 13th March I'll be still attending the game...)

Can someone also explain how none of the Scottish games (down to the 3rd Division) have been called off when some of the SPL ground arent much better than League One clubs?

It was not so cold in Scotland and N. Ireland last night as it was in England and Wales. Right let's go and watch some egg chucking.

To be fair, Rochdale is a lot further away from Charlton than Chesterfield. If Dale ran buses, they probably would've been well on their way by 9am.

The match should've been called off yesterday imo. If it was just about playable yesterday afternoon, there was no way it was going to survive the forecast weather for last night, which was the coldest of this current cold snap.

lol! I was hoping no one would pick up on that IA. To be honest though standard opening hours for businesses are usually from 9am on a Saturday...

Especially after Ipswich v Middlesbrough was cancelled after 30mins (I think) today, rules for abandonment should certainly be brought into place i.e.

Pitch Inspection @ 1pm on the Friday - If its not good enough game is off / if it is then they get a stay of execution.
Pitch Inspection @ 9am on the Saturday - If good enough, game goes ahead

And in both instances the Football League Official and the Referee make a unanimous decision together

As a pretty near perfect example of bovine stupidity, the abandonment of last night's rugby match in Paris only ten minutes before kick off, would take some beating. What the hell were they thinking of?

This sums it up beautifully -

"I felt the pitch myself and it was rock hard and dangerous. Farce and scandal were two words flying around the press room and the FFR is likely to come in for strong criticism from the French media, who feel it was a clear mistake not to make the decision to postpone the match yesterday - if not before. And what of the fans? Leaving it so late has infuriated them even more. Paris was bathed in sunshine today but it made little difference to the temperatures, which have slowly frozen the capital over the past week. The River Seine, in fact, looked like it should have had polar bears dancing across it - surely that told us everything we needed to know about the state of a pitch without undersoil heating?"

This is from a Wycombe fan's report of the Blades game yesterday -

"...very nice ground, simple drive up, decent atmosphere (made better by the Birmingham and Charlton fans who turned up)."

Good to see some people's journeys weren't completely wasted. <ok>
