Surely that renders these long run tests as completely pointless? Why run the car for 100+ laps, when the car you'll be driving in Oz bears no correlation to the car you used in preseason. seems like a waste of resoursces to me.
But i saw cars doing 50+ laps with the same settings. thats pretty limited development wise. Surely the sim can give them an (almost) accurate fix on the desired settings?
How else can one evaluate a race-long simulation which provides data for differing fuel loads under the same settings?
Erm.... And how often do simulations transfer to the real world with any true accuracy? Cancel 2012, they can just stick on Mario Kart.
Simulators are normally pretty accurate, i would put more faith in them, than a meaningless meander around Jerez.
How am i? Why do you think the top teams invest so heavily in simulator tech? I doubt it's so they can show off to their mates.
Haahhaa… OK. Why not cancel the real season and leave it to Sony Playstation's environmentally friendly GT4 (or is it GT5 - I've lost count)? I suppose there will come a day when this may be possible (in 150 years or so); but for now at least, the real world still counts in the real world.
Might have something to do with not being able to go test to save millions... so instead they spend millions on an xbox. ;p
I wonder if the simulator has online functions. Hamilton can be t-boning Massa even in the off season if it does.
Hey, sod the environment, i want the V10's back. I enjoy the real world, i'm just saying that teams can gather as much data from a sim, as they can from racing around a track that isn't even on the F1 calendar.
Man, I'm all for V10s too. (I've had the pleasure in one guise or another). But the fact is that teams would not bother at all with 'real-life' testing if their simulations were perfect - or even close to it!
Surely that would make everyone happy. the FIA caan keep it's mandate to cut emissions, the teams get the best data, and we get bigger engines back thanks to eco saving measures being made elsewhere. I'm not looking forward to the puny 1.5 V6 heaps.
Dear Boss. We have decided to skip testing this year and have opted to have an extra couple of weeks off. Don't panic though as we've invested the money that we saved in pizza, beer and a wurlitzer. Thankfully, That nice man that we once employed as a test driver has volunteered to take care of everything on the xboxstation. His last input was something about putting roll bars on 11 or something. It was a bit hard to understand his broken English after 8 pints, but he ensures us that he's on it. Sincerely, Tech Director. I'm thinking that footie players should just whack on FIFA.
How cool would that be? Drunken F1. Winner is the last person to jump out of the car and tell his pitcrew "I love you guysh, you're the besht people in the whole world"
