A completely thankless and unbelievably high-pressure post in which literally every move you make is under the microscope of our pathetically over-expectant and rabid press, a squad full of absolute twats and a bunch of clueless bureaucratic morons for superiors - no thanks. Have to say the England job isn't looking that appealing from where I'm standing, they only real good point right now as things are would be the fat pay cheque coming in upon being fired after England's next inevitable failure.

England's problems run way deeper than just a manager IMO.

We've known that for a while but how do you get rid of the suits that elect each other to power?

It's a brotherhood of big fat cats that know nothing about football but plenty about devious ways of making money for themselves.

Mon won't be considered because he already failed the last FA muppets interview less than 4 years ago?

I think the likes of Hodgson, Pearce and even someone like Venables are ahead of Mon.

However, if the ****ers at the FA fail to capture the nations mood and that of the players themselves it now seems, and fail to appoint old Arry, then they should be shot with dog ****.

Good point. It is worded unusually. And apart from Ferguson, O'Neill does seem on a very short list of candidates for "British". The problem is, I think Ferguson was right. The England manager is expected to do things that don't (or shouldn't) concern him. His job should be to win things, not f**k about with schools and Sunday leagues. I suspect O'Neill will agree with Fergie here, and turn it down if offered.

Rightly so, to my mind. This is just another F.A. fudge job.

12 of the premier league managers are non-English, British/Irish people. So it could apply to a few of them really. It'd be pretty stupid to rule out people who have proved they are succesful coaching English players in England.

The popular choice isn't always the right one. The FA should not let public pressure from fans or players help them make a decision, they probably will, but that will just end up in a disastrous situation for the country and once again culminate in England plodding along instead of making a radical, long term improvement.

I think Chappz should get it & I think if he applies he's in with a shout. Since 1966 the only time England have come close to owt were Italia 90 & Euro 96 under Robson,(legend), & Venables. The rest have been ****e which is exactly what Chappy talks. He'd fit right in with those shiney arsed know **** alls at the FA.

Either way, he'd be better than Turnip Taylor.

Problem is though spaghetti heed was supposed to make us a continental sort of team. He was an FA appointment. We failed spectacularly in south Africa.

The likes of Eriksson and McClaren were FA picks. They failed too.

We all wanted Venables and if got up to a semi final. The FA didn't like him so sacked him.

Arry is the only choice to get us back playing a style and shape that will suit English players again.

I shed no tears for Crapello.

I too think Redknapp has a good chance of succeeding as England manager, he knows the English game inside out and is familiar with most of the players in the squad. The negatives? His record in Europe leaves much to be desired in terms of goals conceded, that would suggest the tactical side of his game needs to be improved. Is a man who's defences have nearly always been non-existent Vs European teams a good choice for a team that wants to better Europe's top teams this summer?

The other question is, is it a good idea to get a relatively long term manager in before the Euros? He won't have much time to assess partnerships or players and he won't have much time to find a winning formula. People will say that he'd have plenty of time to prep for the world cup, but the prep would be hampered with all the negativity around the team and manager.

If I was the FA I wouldn't appoint Redknapp, I would appoint a top tactician as a stop gap for the Euros then get in a young manager and let him build his own side in his own image in preparation for the 2014 WC and beyond. I think Redknapp would do about aswell as Eriksson did, I think getting a young manager and having a long term plan would be much better. Lets be honest, with Arry, the likes of Lampard, Terry, King and A.Cole willl more than likely be getting shoehorned into the side even if they don't suit any of England's players.

We didn't fail spectacularly in South Africa...we were humiliated by a far superior team. If you follow the media then you'll be inclined to believe the hype. Germany, Holland and Spain are light years ahead of this stupid squad that Capello has left behin and the only way we are going to get close to them is by swallowing our pride and letting our youngsters loose on this tournament, give them the experience they need right now, not in U21 tournaments, let them take on Europe's elite this summer and if they're pulled apart then they'll learn their job a lot quicker.

Hart, Wilshere, Cleverley, Jones, Smalling, Welbeck, Chamberlain and even Carroll and Henderson if the new manager can get them playing well, are the future. By playing Lampard, Terry, Gerrard, Crouch, Barry, Parker et al all we are doing is damaging the chance that these youngsters can go on to achieve great things. Steve Bruce lost his job by trying to integrate players one at a time, pussy-footing around and being indecisive. O'Neill has thrown them all in together and told them that they are a match for any team, hey presto, they're getting the job done.

To catch the Germans we have to think like them, they're the best team in the world in my opinion, and they'll prove it in the summer.

Ignore the press, generally during the tournaments the pressure is on the players. Look at Green, the press forced Capellos hand and it ruined the confidence of several players after one game. Capello handled it badly by pandering to the papers and ****ed all the goalkeepers over.
The squad full of twats is selected by the manager so who's strong enough to tell the likes of Terry and Lampard it's over? Redknapp has a history of discarding big players if he doesn't like them, maybe he will help England.
MON is good at kicking arseholes into shape but a matter of months into a "dream job" which is going well, can't see it happening.
The FA painted themselves into a corner by saying English all those months ago and instead of letting it dry and walking off theyve applied a second coat by saying British. There's just not a big enough talent pool to choose from. Personally, I'd be interested in giving Wenger a call.
