I'm afraid I'm signing out for the evening. I was lying about having no sympathy about Molson's shovel. It really has got to me and I need to go and have a think about what it all means. Car wind screen totally coveted but the snow is letting up. No more to follow. Over and out.
I've just ventured out (Pizza Express, if you please) and it's quite nice outside actually. I don't mean 'nice' in a "lovely day" kind of way, it's just lightly snowing, not desperately cold and actually quite bonny. A light dusting of snow around. Aww, pretty. Additionally, my pizza was lovely, and I even had a dessert. One shall have to make sure I am in the gym tomorrow.
Same area for me. Snow began laying where snow/ice already was around half 5ish and has now only just started to lay on parts which were previously cleared (roads, paths, etc.) On Look North, they said snow tonight and then temperature is going to rise going into the weekend peaking at 7oC on Saturday and rain on Sunday (5oC). When I was outside around half 12 earlier today, much of the snow/ice I came across was quickly turning to slush.
Today I've learnt what freezing rain is, and discovered that it helped cause almost 100 car accidents in Cumbria alone in the space of 6 hours this morning.
The snow has stopped now.. and very little of it laid. If the temperatures do rise tomorrow, it looks as thought it won't take long to melt. Saturday doesn't look as though it will be cancelled - fingers crossed.
If it's anything like last time it'll be the Council that causes it to be cancelled. Which numpty was it that thought it was a good idea to go out shovelling away all the fluffy snow that gives people grip, just to expose the compacted snow underneath that's like walking on ice?
i think it might be time to get the shovels out and clear some paths last thing we need is another game called off!
Looking at the webcam I'd leave it. The pitch will be fine, and the surrounding area is better with that snow covering than it is being cleared and ending up with a layer of ice.
The expected temperatures will be too warm for it to be ice. The boffins have said 7 degrees whilst ice melts at 0. The snow that has fallen is a hardly a cm tall and the ice that was there previous to today's fall was melting pretty quickly when I was walking on it earlier. Fingers crossed chaps!
Obviously I'm not real clued up on the weather in Hull at the moment, but FC was on last Sunday after all of the snow over the past week, so I can't see City being off this week unless it's been really bad. And it didn't snow in Hudds, and actually turned into quite a warm night!
Fingers crossed indeed, if I come down two weeks running and there's no football I'll not be amused (down next weekend as well), especially if my sister is late having her baby so I don't get to see my new niece/nephew til next month.
