As a long jump athlete? From the highlights of today's game, it looks as though the British record of 8.30m could be under threat from his sending-off 'tackle'. And, while I haven't seen him play much, so this could be a bit harsh, he doesn't seem to have done much for Saints...
The annoying thing is that Gobern was looking vaguely good today as well (in the brief time he was on the pitch...)
If you watch his tackle again and again, you will still never know what he is thinking. It actually gets worse the more you watch...there was a danger he'd take out the Sky satellite. 3.1 up, no danger, middle of pitch...well, no one says footballers are smart. NA repeats that we must go in the loan market...lets hope he has someone lined up. It can't be easy to add someone to the mix at this end of the season.
To be honest Guys I'll think you will find that he has been told to go out and create an impression ready to make that position his next season. He has been told to Toughen up in mid field. Like a lot of youngsters they tend to over do things when trying a bit too hard. He will learn from this.....I would not like to be that lad when he is called into the office by NA. NA does not like that kind of tackle and will not tolerate it at all. Too many of those type of tackles and he will be moved on, trust me. In my opinion young Goberne is another little gem waiting to be let loose...not based on yesterdays game obviously. When he comes on he is quite handy in the middle of the park and has some speed to boot and a decent shot on him as well. Unfortunately he will not be there for the next 2/3 games is it. That will hurt him badly and not do the team any good either. Especially with spider out of the equation for the time being. So a very big lesson will be needed to be learned. He will bounce back.
Only our third red card in League 1, the first 2 were to Morgan and one of those was appealed. 11 men win games, ask Colchester and Carlisle. As for the tackle, he did have to go, although it wasn't really a leg breaker.
It's true that our disciplinary record has been pretty good - I also think I'm right in remembering that one of those Morgan red cards was actually in the JPT?
According to the OS NA was of the opinion the youngster slipped as he went in, although he didn't disagree with refs decision to send him off.
Don't think NA will go over the top (at least not a la Gobern) in telling the lad off. Stupid and strange but not malicious...a learning curve for him. I usually call a bad tackle a Scholes tackle, but from now on its a Gobern tackle.
It was a crazy tackle to say the least 3 1 up what was he thinking? Still a very important win for us yesterday good to knock Bournemouth off that 2nd spot.
It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen in a football match. They look like they're trying not to laugh on The Football League Show when they're talking about it.
Yeah that was the appealed one. Call me biased but ranting at the referee post match is not what I like to see, so more than impressed with Nigel for that. EDIT: Just remembered Lee Barnard v Swindon. Oh well...
Lets get real, there was no mallice involved, he just got a little excited and kinda forgot what to do!
