"it was their cup final. We have exceeded our expectations, but saints have underperformed. A big ground and training facilities mean nothing, its about team spirit. They have spent more than any other team, and only put 3 past us. lee bradbury has committed his long term future to us. They have shown us no respect. We deserve to be second.....etc etc etc....." What he wont say - " Well done saints, they fell 1 - 0 down to a really poor decision, but their true character showed through, along with Nigel Adkins true worth as a manager. They are worthy favourites now, especially with their games in hand to go up in the automatic places"
After 3 wins out of 3, perhaps Eddie will show some class and a bit of respect to the mighty Saints, but I'm not holding my breath..........
Eddie Mitchell is a bitter old git ... Underperformed - if we were poor ... What was Bournemouth? ****e?? I feel like the cat with cream ... Southampton 3 - 0 B'mouth. If anyone ain't seen it Duckhunter posts a YouTube clip of Cherries fans sing Que Ser we going to St Mary's ... Looking back what was they thinking!!
No doubt he will not argue against the decision for their goal, which through Solent's commentary of events sounds absolutely ridiculous. Just watching the Manchester United vs. Arsenal game and the same thing happened, but offside was given! (mind you it was against an Arsenal player at Old Trafford). Either way, it is a massive victory for Saints, and will re-establish us alongisde Brighton as promotion faviroutes. Losing this game could have had massive consequences, but there is still some hugely significant games ahead of us. Adkins does not seem one to allow for complacency, but it is a natural human characteristic after repeated success, therefore in preparing for retaining second place and staying there the team must examine games such as Brentford at home. For all the loud noises previously coming from Bournemouth in an attempt to create a rivalry, I still hope they can win the play offs, for four south coast teams in the Championship will be fantastic.
Agree with you all. Out of interest, did any of you guys hear the sad old git being interviewed (more publicity seeking) before the game, when asked if he had spoken to NC, he replied that he had shown NC how a Community Football Club should be run Has he not heard of the Saints Foundation and what they do for the community and what they put into the community. Sad man Mr M, all he ever craves is publicity to soooooothe his little ego. The more I hear and see of this thing the more he reminds me of our 'ducky' friend!! Anyways rant over, onwards & upwards 3 1 get in COYR
I agree, it can be argued that our club is one of the most community based in England still, and NC has only furthered this. There may have been season ticket issues (though rightly Darren Wheeler in last week's 'The Pink' pointed out that the minority of fans can be seen as responsible, the ones who abused the old system. Ticket prices are suitably lowered for games, local clubs are supported, charities are donated to, and the people of Southampton can still spend a saturday afternoon at the ground of THEIR club, one they can associate too. Also as Wheeler pointed out, "southampton are still alive whilst Portsmouth face extinction as we have a fan base that will stand up and be counted"- we fight for our club, and have the right blend between community spririt and an almost aloof boardroom when dealing with other matters. I wish Bournemouth all the best, but it is a shame that they cannot act proffessionally; it tarnishes these 'new forest derbies'. Also the comments of Bournemouth being more of a community club fall short considering that we have a substantially large support in the town, which I have noticed on visits there. Enjoy Wembley and win the play-offs Bournemouth, and be graceful about it, but as is so often the case with modern football, the club with the financial backing and resources in all quarters will prevail (Brighton are the exception, I am only impressed with their form also). MLRA
Eddie Mitchell ego is bigger than his club. Disgrace to Bournemouth and I feel sorry for the genuine fans that are embarrassed with his stupid, provoking comments during the week... He got what he deserves! COYR!!
I have just been on the Cherries board. Not one of their 7/8000 fans have chosen to actually go on site tonight to post on their board. Most of the latest threads are Saints fans trying to drum up a bit of interest in the game or its after math......Have they really taken it that bad.......do they have more plastic fans than real ones? Or perhaps they are more ashamed of Eddie Mitchell and his antics...too embarrassed by his little club attitude??
I put an article on their board early last week asking for their opinions of what was looking to be a good match. I had 1 response I think... Support or what...?
To be fair to them they have another forum which is strong and sponsors a player each season. I get some abuse from them but mostly the abuse is aimed at those that send it to them. Bit like this sites fore runner.
Who cares what he says? His job is to look after the interest of his club, and part of that is to get publicity. His request that the fans wear as much of the merchandise in the club shop for today's game is an example of his utterances being good for business. Our chairman has behaved as always in a totally professional way. Personally, I would be more concerned what Peterborough's chairman has to say!
It will be interesting to actually see what he has got to say in Mondays Bournemouth echo. Did he make any statements in the pink?
This just goes to show. this is clearrly 1 way. enjoy the read. http://www.footballgroundguide.com/southampton/fans_review7.htm
Read this last year, but still made me smile. Have never considered Bournemouth a real rival, though obviously wanted to beat them last year. I suspect it's strictly one way as you would expect for a small side near to a much larger club. To judge a rivalry you have to imagine what it's like to lose to them. Would hate to lose to Brighton because they are on a good run and I want to finish above them. Would feel suicidal if we lost to Portsmouth (sorry Godders) even though I don't think they are a threat in the League.
