Damn right. My choice of team as a five year old was determined solely by my ability to show my future daughter a European Cup <ok>

That is worthy of parent of the year IMO, spending the majority of your life a plastic just to show your daughter that you or may not have predicted being born, just to show her something no one in London has seen before. <cheers>

And on topic, a couples things need to be factored in when deciding what the best signings of the Fergie era are. First the price may play a part, how much did we pay, how much did they sell for upon leaving? What did they bring to the team? Did they help win trophies, redefine the team? Or did they bring profits from outside.

Ronaldo obviously has to be on the list, we made a profit of about £68m on him, not to mention the amount of attention he ended up bringing the club. Our trophy haul during his stay at the club, wasn't too shabby either.

Both Schmeichal and VDS, for our periods of success while they are our keepers.

Roy Keane, Vidic and Cantona for what they did for our club.

Ji-sung Park also deserves a mention for the amount of money he has brought in from Asia along with some great performances in big games, along with his ability to work hard as a just a squad player.

Bet you would rather have Ronaldo than the 68m profit the Glazers used to pay their PIK interest with?
Schmeichal and VDS did you right proud but the **** you have between the sticks now are worse than Hilario.

Tbh I think it's the players like Irwin, Park and Solskjaer that were amongst his greatest signings. They weren't big names or flashy players, they weren't in demand, no one expected them to be world beaters, but they turned out to be quality signings and arguably played as big a role in our long term success as players like Ronaldo and Cantona, who burned brighter but for less time.

Then again, if we remember that it was SAF who convinced Giggs to reject City and sign for Utd as a 14 year old, I think the question of his greatest ever signing is answered for good <ok>

I believe the Ronaldo money funded our £50m transfers this summer. Any team would want Ronaldo, but fact is he wanted to leave, and he left.

Aye, and we got to see another Ballon D'Or winner in red for a few seasons, which is something money can't buy <ok>

Especially not if it's Michael Owen <laugh>

Has to be Ronaldo, the only world player of the year SAF has ever had. Cantona was great, but he didn't get 31 league goals in a season, and he didn't do the business often in the Champions League. Plus we got 80 million for Ronaldo, a 68 million profit, on what we bought him for:biggrin:
