Leonard Chesire Disability - it was either that or Sir Bobby foundation, but I missed out on getting a place so have had to buy my way in & the foundation doesn't have any guarranteed places sadly.
The reason I'm running for them is my uncle/my dad's brother is disabled - partially sighted and has severe learning difficulties and they managed to get him into some form of work and have a social life. He still lives with my 91 year old grandad and we worry what's going to happen when my grandad finally pops his clogs as the rest of the family live away from the North East & my dad's only there half the year.
Gonna see if I can do the Leeds 10km or a half marathon around here for the SBF though as well, since it was his ward that he managed to get built that treated and cured my aunty of cancer (also it's a great cause started by a legend)!

Some family friends of ours go out to Uganda every year and as one of them is a doctor, they have built a hospital and trained nurses and doctors - also built a well and a hydroelectric dam so they have electricity! Where abouts are you going out of interest?

I was meant to be doing an overland drive with supplies last year from Tyrefort down south to Ghana in 4x4s with my sister's fiance who's a mackem, but it was cancelled as it's gotten too dangerous in Western Sahara with a lot of charity drives being kidnapped and a couple of people beheaded - I was gutted! http://www.glenmckeith4x4.co.uk/

ToonSi, yeah mate, whenever you get it set up I'll definitely sponsor.

My Great Aunt adopted a young lad who's mother had been an alcoholic (therefore the baby was damaged in the womb). She died a few years later and the little boy, Gerry, was brought up with by my Grandma as one of her own (already had 11 kids and my Granddad died when my Mam was 4). Gerry lives by himself but my auntie and uncle do loads for him, cook him dinner most nights and my uncle employs him from money from his own business (Gerry feeds and walks my uncles dogs for him). If it wasn't for my Gran and Uncle I can't see Gerry would've had much of a life like so would be happy to give money to a cause of this type!

Aw that's proper heartwarming that! Aye I've created it, just need to set it up, but I've been that busy with uni work recently that I haven't had a chance, it's on the to do list of this weekend so hopefully have it setup tonight or something when I'm back home on the computer!

Aye ToonSi, get an article posted when you're collecting, I'll definitely donate. <ok>

Both my sister and uncle have learning difficulties and I know how important it is to have people helping, even the little things so they can lead as 'normal' a life as possible without being completely held back by their disabilities.

Cheers lads, ToonSi, I've returned the favour just there now.

I'll try and bump this up again towards the end of the month but I've stuck the link to the site in my signature as well just in case.

I'm going with READ International (http://www.readinternational.org.uk/). This is the first year our uni (QUB) has ever been involved so the numbers of people actually wanting to go are pretty low...I got an email off one of the organisers saying the likelihood is, I'll just be tagged onto the end of someone else's group, which to me implies that there'll be space?

She told me that to guarantee a spot, our group (there's 6 of us raising money, 4 of them are completely incompetent) have to raise a minimum of £1000 before they'd give me a date and aim for between £2-3k. If you're interested I could send you over a couple of email addresses of people I've spoken to?

I'll have a look at the website and let you know at a later date if i'm still interested, currently i'm trying to find a job so that is of course my highest priority,...£1000...that seems a lot of money to raise, I wouldn't have a clue, I also live near Bishop so if you want help doing a fund raiser at Bishop inbox me on here!

Edit: Just sponsored you, also do you know Rory Harty? Top boy if you do!

Cheers mate, I just saw that there before coming on here!

Aye I know Rory, went to school with him and was really friendly with his girlfriend Alice...Also Peter Shovelin, he was in my class for a good 2 years? Keiran Megran was in my year at school...Megan Hughill, Joanna Donnelly, Kristi Toner, David Burn? That's pretty much anyone I can think of off the top of my head who live in Aycliffe.

I'm probably not gunna be back in Bishop 'till mid-April but if I do something I'll definitely let you know!
