anyone but capello for me. i don't care who it is! i've completely lost my love for watching england since south africa. i know many will say they lost their passion for international football a long time before that but i stuck with it until the summer of 2010 - but that was the final straw for me.

but i do want to get that passion back! i want a manager in charge who is progressive and actually has a flippin' vision of where he wants to take england. i want younger players given a chance. i want joe hart as captain - a fine leader at a good age who can captain the nation for many years to come instead of a ridiculous short term view all the time. i want micah richards at right back. i want players from more unfashionable clubs given a chance if they are playing well. i want to see nathan dyer play for england ahead of theo walcott. grant holt ahead of bobby zamora.

i want an england i can actually be proud of because they give it their all.

Towards the end of that, I could actually hear a brass band playing Jerusalem

Totally agree with you, it's been years since I really cared about watching England. Don't misunderstand me, I care very much about the national side, they've just given me no reason to care for a very long time.

thing is exile, i really don't think i, or indeed any of us are asking for miracles. we aren't demanding the world cup, we aren't demanding we win every game, but we should demand a team of players and management who give everything they've got when representing the country, and that every single english player at every single club can be selected if they are playing well enough <ok>

Luckily I gave up on any interest in the national team many years ago. The same names get picked regardless of form. Im sure Rooney could have a leg amputated and he would still be an automatic pick. The whole lot of them are shady at best, whether its racism, missing drugs tests, assault or just the obvious cheating on your wife without considering how she may feel when your spotted at 3 in the morning whilst pissed with some tart on your arm (or worse)!
We dont even have any decent footballers in the country in true terms of footballing ability. Ball control, technique, vision, craft and creativity are mainly foreign to the average fan who thinks running round aimlessly like someone who has just had a red hot poker stuck up his arse.
The majority still think that we have world class players in the likes of Rooney and Gerrard. The odd wondergoal and being everywhere is not an attribute of a world class player unless your the average caveman who loves engerlund.
The FA and everything they control are a joke but whilst SKY keep paying stupid amounts then the whole of football officaldom in the UK will continue with the joke/ lie that we are part of the greatest footballing nation on earth and so do nothing about anything from english management, through ability and morales to grass routes.

I preferred Capello when he used to be on telly doing those magic tricks that went wrong.

Blimey, This is a first for me.........agreeing with the enemy, but, Totally agree with every word. Just because these louts are paid £200,000 a week they seem to think they're worth it and it makes them believe in the hype that Sky and the media in general pump out about them. I can't honestly remember the last time I was remotely interested or vaguely excited by the international team!

does anyone want to be interested in how england are doing anymore or is it just me?
has it got to the point of no return for some?

if so, i think thats disappointing but understandable. i'm desperate to rekindle some sort of affinity to the national team but it needs massive changes for it to happen and a total change of attitude from the players and from the manager with his selections <ok>

brendan rodgers has proven that you don't have to earn £250k a week to be able to coach players to pass the ball - it would be good to get a forward thinking coach in who could ignore the urge to pick players based only on reputations. who that man is i don't know!

I lost interest as soon as we decided it was ok to cheat by having a foriegn manager in an ENGLAND tracksuit top thus rendering the National game a pointless and meaningless distraction.

Yes! I do want to be interested. But I'm not expecting to become riveted any time soon. And I don't buy into the prospect of glorious failure as per the other home nations (when they actually manage to qualify for a tournament that is). Once the Euros are over I'm looking for a mass clearout of the current dross. We need someone in charge with the guts to say that we are going to give ourselves time to develop a squad of players who will have a decent chance of winning something, and if that means not qualifying for the next World Cup, or the next Euros, so be it. It's said of Capello that he has never understood the culture and mentality of the English footballer; what we need is to develop footballers who can actually understand and produce what is required to compete at the highest level. I don't see a potential home-grown English manager of sufficient experience and integrity.

I must admit, I think the England team should be English throughout.
It just doesn't seem right somehow.
Even in Escape To Victory they said The Allies and not England

Arsene Wenger? I've always thought he'd do well

Not English obviously but knows the english game like anything, Brings through young talent, and is probably ready to flee the sinking ship that is arsenal.

I've always thought we should recruit Wenger not for the England job but to work on football in this country at grassroots level and to have some position on the F.A.
