What most people fail to realise is they are brainwashed from birth. That goes for everyone.

When you analyse the human race from the top down you realise its all a joke. I don't dislike Sunderland at all, theres nothing wrong with "mackems" its all just artificial, culturally induced prejudice. Its the us vs them mentality that has scuppered human progression throughout history.

Its a joke, the whole thing is a sham, you have been brainwashed, i have been brainwashed. The best thing is to at least be aware that we are brainwashed and to fight against our ingrained hatred of other human beings because we are "supposed to" or because they are "different".

Cleadon is on the outskirts of Sunderland so it is a bit better I think but dont quote me. Notice he doesnt take take his wife and child into City centre.
None of their players seem to go there either.

They class themselves as South Shields but they're about half way in between.

Actually, I can understand where some of them are coming from. One of my mates (black and white) has a box at Sunland (for business purposes). He's forever asking me to join him. There's no way on Gods earth I would set foot inside that ground unless we were playing. Mind you, I wouldn't go to the extremes those sad bastards are going to condemn others.

Surely by commenting on it we are letting their opinions bother us, just move on and accept it. They are the way they are, we are the way we are.

Haven't been to the Stadium of Light for a match. Been there for a conference but I didn't think much of it. it was alright but the standard of their food was not a patch on Newcastle. Went to watch England U15's and v Brazil U15's at Roker Park once. Ground was a bit of a dive but the pie was one of the best I've ever had! Haha.

Love the detached, philosophical stance. But there's still nothing sweeter than a comfortable victory over those that were born with chips on shoulders.

I went to sunderland wigan this year. Had a fun day, going to a stadium i hadnt been to before and seeing some comedy defending and SAFC losing to a **** team.

Maybe it's because im not a geordie but I dont feel the hatred towards sunderland that everyone else does. I hate liverpool and stoke more than I hate the mackems. Except some of the ones on here.

Ive been to watch sunderland many times, my limited-mobility gran has a season ticket, so does my mother. I want sunderland to win when i go to see them and i celebrate the goals because i know my gran and mother are happy.

Neither of them are hateful towards newcastle and i have been brought up without an ingrained prejudice.

Im glad im not from the north east because a large portion of the hatred is fostered in primary school via poor parenting then the bad apple effect. where im from it was man utd / city rivalry and hate. I was just happy to be a newcastle fan.

I will not identify myself with being hateful towards a city, people or team just because i am "supposed" to hate them, its irrational.

Agreed. Being from about as far from Newcastle as you can get (Somerset) means that I honestly have no opinion on Sunderland one way or the other- they are the equivalent of vanilla or the colour beige, which I think might actually be worse.

I have Mackem mates but I'm happy when we win and they lose and I'm to old to change.

Hatred is an emotion based on fear and/or ignorance, usually also connected with a deep-seated inferiority complex.

Why should it be a surprise then that there is such loathing eminating from the banks of the Wear, given that no player who signs for them actually lives in the town, or does their socialising there?

For my part, I was happy to have a few pints, with Niall Quinn, a few years ago, in Spain, when he was their Chairman. Decent sort, with whom you could have a good old football chat, without any of the nonsense that is often associated with our two clubs.

I'd probably go to watch them play with Mackem mates for a day out on the piss, but I wouldn't be supporting them.
