Considering what happened with Aluko could we see Rangers forced to cough up or will they try and rip up the contract?

the Express version has a different slant on it....

RANGERS could net Mervan Celik for free after an administrative blunder by Swedish club GAIS.
The Light Blues were expected to have to pay £200,000 in compensation for the Swedish under-21 winger.

Express Sport can reveal that the SPL champions have been told they might not have to pay the compensation set down by FIFA guidelines.

GAIS still believe they are entitled to training compensation because Celik, who made his debut in the weekend win over Hibs, is under the age of 23,

Their case, however, could be undone because they failed to offer the player a new contract 60 days before his last deal expired. It is understood that GAIS officials did offer Celik a deal verbally but never put it in writing and therefore have no documentary evidence to show FIFA should Rangers challenge them.

The Swedes are well known for their efficiency and grasp on bureaucracy so I'd surprised if they had ****ed up. Here's hoping the didn't anyway.

Not all bad news for the Huns.

After watching todays game, GAIS have agreed to waive any fee for 'developing' Cellic.

A spokesman for the club is reported to have said "it could damage our reputation to be seen to have developed ....that"

Before he signed for us he hadn't played football for months so I won't be judging him on one 45 minute performance in a game that not one Rangers player got pass marks

    Rangers in compensation row

Mervan Celik's move to Rangers has become subject to controversy as the midfielder's former club claim they are still owed compensation.

The 21-year-old joined Gers from GAIS in the January transfer window as a free agent after his contract expired at the end of the season.

However, the Swedish club are now claiming that Rangers still owe them compensation but are trying to avoid paying it.

Under FIFA ruling the Gothenburg club are entitled to a sum in the region of £240,000 for the time they have invested in the player's development, provided they have made an attempt to keep Celik on their books.

DesperateBut GAIS believe that Rangers are taking a gamble on not paying the fee for the winger and have labelled the club as 'desperate'.

"We've done everything exactly as we should. We could not have done any more," GAIS director Mats Persson said.

"Our assistant manager Kjell Pettersson has spoken to Mervan and he thinks it's sad that we've come to this. We have not yet passed the date when Rangers had to pay the fee, so now we wait and see.

"There wasn't even a loophole. Rangers took a chance that we would not have a receipt to prove we offered him a contract. But it feels more like a desperate attempt to avoid paying."

VersatileMeanwhile Celik's new teammate Alejandro Bedoya has backed the attacking midfielder to become an Ibrox success once he has had time to settle into life at the club.

"From what I saw of him in the Swedish season he's a player who creates things out of nothing sometimes and we could use that flair as well as his work rate," he added.

"I played against him a couple of times and he came here on the back of a really good season. He might not be in the best form coming in because he's had a long close season.

"He's another versatile player and I think he can fit in anywhere across those three forward positions and in midfield as well.

"He's just coming off a long off-season so I don't know how much he's feeling that right now, but it will take him a bit of time to adjust too because he's still a young guy."
