Birkenhead in other words (shudder)

Agree. Tho' to be fair I don't think Chelsea themselves can just call the game off - it has to be the Safety Advisory Committee which includes the police and LA. But then what with 'elf and safetee being what it is, if the club says they want to postpone the other two will be unlikely to overrule them and risk being left with the blame if there's an incident...

Sunderland have been very impressive under MON - 15 points from their last six games including away at Stoke and Chelsea and home to City. 4th spot might be a bit out of reach, but I wouldn't bet against them getting a European spot if Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool keep being so inconsistent.

Inconsistent is the word for it.

I think that one must eventually pull away from the rest and chelsea should be the one but if you beat them and we beat the spuds... well god knows then.

sunderland have had a great run from thier wide men we all should know o'niells tactics by now though.. its fairly much the exact same as villa days isn't it? width, defense etc.

The thing with O'Neil is he makes an instant impact, but then it slowly fizzles out. I think they'll finish 8th this season, though.

Wasn't the same thing being touted with Villa and Villa had better players? Saw what happened there........ fizzled out when they had Arsenal on the ropes <ok>

well that is true but there's a few factors.

first player power example; spurs... now ramos had a good side yeah? but was at the bottom of the pile. why? well i think its the same reason why chelsea have seen anchelotti sacked... its players getting the managers the sack. Thats the first factor, i believe the players got bruce the sack.

Second playing for the shop window. I don't think that many of the players now at sunderland see it as a home away from home or their aspiration. Therefore i think some see this as a chance to impress.

third; new eyes give new chances... the young irish lad who scored today is an example.. o'niell's freshened up his side just by picking some guys.....

finally I agree that O'niell can see the bounce but then not follow though long term... but then guys said that about redknapp too.... o'niel has a long ball, tight restrictive style that can be easily prepared for, there's an early unkonw in different players playing etc but i recokn by the time march rolls aorund anyone preparing for sunderland can predict what they'll do.

sunderland good..... but not that good, bruce signed a lot of average guys so o'niell will need ot go do a lot of work building them up... he signed milner, downing etc for villa and all were sold for big profits in the end.... a bit of extra ambition is perhaps missing in o'niell. like pulis i think he won't go all out for trophies.

I would definitely like to see Sessegnon come to Anfield. he could play for any of the top 6 clubs at the moment. Wonder if anyone will buy him in the summer.

I'm not so sure on him, he seems to be on from at the moment. Can he maintain it?

From what I've seen of him I think he'd be a great addition - can he maintain it? I think at a bigger club he can not only maintain it, but improve it.

Quality player that is very offensively versatile. I'd be surprised if he's still a Sunderland player come next season <ok>

Yeah great looking player, was decent last season but then went quiet earlier this season although I think that was more to do with team/manager etc than him.
Would be very happy to see him in our squad.

I agree with that - if any of the four clubs put together a run of five or six wins in their next seven or eight games they would walk away with fourth spot. All four have shown they can go on a strong run, but all four have also shown they can have **** runs too - gonna be an exciting three months!

And yes, O'Neill's tactics are predictable, but that doesn't make them any less effective! Sunderland are an outside shot, but on current form they will finish on around 60 points which will put them right in the mix. And if anyone can maintain a good run of form it's O'Neill. Then again, he also has some pretty impressive slumps!

Completely disagree with that - O'Neill has gotten stronger at every club he's been at. His points tally, league position and cup performance went up pretty much every year at Wycombe, Leicester and Villa. It was only at Celtic that his first season was the best, and even then he won a trophy every season barring his third.

Lol, I love how you ignore everything I'm saying to focus entirely on Liverpool <laugh> And how is it a sly dig at Liverpool to mention them in the same breath as perennial CL qualifiers such as Chelsea and Arsenal? Surely the sly dig option would have been to claim Sunderland was only competing with Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle for a European spot? <whistle>

And are you claiming Liverpool haven't been inconsistent this season?!?

well.... sunerlan are still muck so... <laugh> 4th it is then.

this league ha gone backwards i say! backwards... the fact that utd team can even consider losing the blackbru at home then still be anywhere near the top shows this... plus city are going to bottle it.. appy arry thinks he's got a shout... i eman doens't that say it all?

Fergie wont let his spat with Alan Hansen go.

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-ne...ntinues-spat-with-alan-hansen-55578-30261636/

"It’s obvious to me that he said what he said in the week before we played Liverpool and I can understand that - he’s a former Liverpool player and Kenny (Dalglish) is his pal.
"That’s no problem with me."

Yep it was so much not a problem he even read the entire MOTD manuscript.

"It is believed club officials have contacted the BBC to point out Alan Hansen’s offending words, including the phrase: "By their own standards, United have been woeful for the past 18 months. I can’t recall Sir Alex Ferguson’s team being so bad for two successive seasons." - http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-ne...ntinues-spat-with-alan-hansen-55578-30261636/

"Neville said the gung-ho style in which Luiz was playing by charging around the pitch and his general characteristics makes it look to observers like the player was “being controlled by a 10-year-old playing on his Playstation”." - http://dailyfootballnews.org/premie...k-at-gary-nevilles-comments-about-david-luiz/

Double standards.

How dare a former Liverpool player, talk badly, about the great Manchester United? Beyond the pale.
