Jenkins & the board apparently pulled the plug on the deal frustrating Buck . Not sure about anyone else but I find this a bit troubling seeing our manager don't really ask for much . Not the kind of atmosphere you'd like as you negotiate the managers contract .Hoping I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill but I'm a bit uneasy , should I be ?
Did they pull the plug? Read an article recently that the player was all set then had cold feet. Not sure how accurate that is. Don't think Rodgers can complain about our Board's willingness to back him. Some promising signings and two excellent loanees..
I was totally happy with our transfers , but Rodgers is the one that matters . If he felt that this player was what he wanted & needed , he should have been backed to the hilt IMO . I think Brendan understands better than most our limitations to spending so when he does ask , the club should do what it can to land his short want list .
Perhaps the Board didn't want to shell out 3 million plus to have somebody sit in the reserves behind Monk. Maybe if the player was not going to come in and challenge Caulker for a place and Spurs then confirming Caulker's loan to the end of the season were the final nails in the deal. We don't know what our cash flow is currently like. We don't want to spend that sort of money on a player that is not going to have an immediate impact. We're not Arsenal that can spend double that for a 19 year old to incubate for a couple of seasons.
All valid points lads, but I am with Crackerjack on this one - get jittery when hearing of frustration, we need the Chairman/Manager relationship as tight as possible, when the Manager starts to lose faith, it's when they can be tempted away by another club.....
didnt Bennett turn around when he was on his way down to swansea as peterborough had accepted a price from norwich and swansea hadnt agreed any fee at that time, not saying that we couldnt of put in a counterbid but maybe that was what the posh were after was a scrap over the player to push the price up.
Don't forget one other thing .... this was the last day of the window and our ability to get paperwork through FIFA by the deadline has been spotty. If the deal was going to be drawn out by bid / counter-bid, plus medical, plus paperwork .... would we have wanted 3 million plus being committed to Peterborough for a player inelligible to play although contracted because of an international transfer paperwork fiasco.
I heard " Jenkins & the Board " withdrew their offer but who knows . Regardless of the hows & whats , the frustration exists . Hope it works itself out , if there is actually something to work out . cheers !
We've been here before many times, with previous managers, and as Rodgers says "I understand where the board are coming from, although that does not mean I agree" , let's hope there are not too many of these old tricks surfacing, as it destroys the good faith between manager and board, and it's clear that Rodgers is far from happy at this antic pulled off last minute, when he further said, "I have to respect them and the people at the club, and it's history now. Norwich have managed to stump up the cash, they have signed the player and good luck to them. "I won't dwell on it. I make my point on why I think we should have done it and then I move on." Please Swansea city board, show some class, in your dealings please!............. please log in to view this image
Seems a bit odd that Buck was dabbling in a few " 3 million " central defenders the past week or so before the window shut , like he was almost promised someone of big value . Rodgers scenario is a lot different than the other Swansea managers , he got us to the Premier & the money that entails . If something was offered to Rodgers in the way of a top defender signing & then taken away , he won't be a happy camper for sure .
Even if Rodgers is frustrated, so what? He's a Premier league manager and frustration goes with the job. To think everything will be plain sailing is being naive. Even people who work very well together have disagreements. But that doesn't need to endanger the relationship. I'm sure Rodgers is professional enough to understand when others don't agree. That's life. If he left and managed another club he'd probably have even more frustration. It's a non-issue.
If by the Board showing 'class' you mean that if a manager wants a player they should always stump up the cash demanded by greedy clubs, then of course not. The cost of this player was spiralling, possibly being pushed higher by the selling club, the buying club and even an avaricious agent. It's not Rodgers' money at the end of the day. It's frustrating missing out but this is just another example of the difficult decisions that the Board have to make but we don't - and neither does Rodgers. He can't always get his way and the Board have consistently backed him.
Then the board should have said NO right away to the transfer instead of putting in a price for the player Buck wanted , then pulling the rug out from under him without his knowledge , making him look foolish . Hope that;s not what happened but fear that's exactly what happened . Time will tell exactly what was done but regardless , damage has been done between the board & Buck .. to bad .
Cause I'm pretty good at reading between the lines , I always have been . Rodgers is disappointed at the way this all went & IF he is , I don't blame him . IF he was told he could do something late in the transfer window & had it taken away at the last moment , Rodgers won't forget he was made to look bad , simple . Don't get me wrong yankee , I pray I'm wrong & this all was a mere misunderstanding , I just don't think it was a misunderstanding at all . Rodgers has been excellent in the transfer market with what he's been allowed to spend , why doubt him now .
Brendan puts forward player he wants. Board find out how much said player would cost, and transfer is then evaluated. Board decide player too expensive for what he is. Fine by me!
Moore & Lita are not bad , especially together . I really like Moore though , to each his own I suppose . Vorm , Sig , Sinclair , Caulker , Taylor , McEachran & Routledge aren;t to bad either although Routledge 's cost was a bit high IMO .
What if the board said " Yes , you can make a bid on Bennett " to Rodgers & then withdrew the backing Scott , is that still ok by you toward Rodgers , I guareentee you that if that's what happened , Rodgers won't be happy with such a " Mickey Mouse " display from behind the scenes . Maybe I'm making to much of this but I can hardly enjoy the win today from feeling bad .
