I don't usually do this but what the heck, we need to spice things up between out board again. Seeing as how Eurpoean football is now a nailed on cert for Newcastle United, which cities would you most like to watch us playing in next season on your tellies?
DARREN Bent would love to earn Shearer-hero status at Aston Villa after revealing his respect for the Newcastle goal legend. Bent joined the Premier League 100 club with his strike against QPR, but Alan Shearer heads the top-flight list with a whopping 260 goals. Villa’s record signing is sure to get a hostile reception from the Toon Army because of his Sunderland past, but is a huge Shearer fan nonetheless. “I don’t think I could ever be hero-worshipped like he was at Newcastle – I’m not sure anyone could,” said Bent. “He was a real icon of our domestic game and world football too. He was someone I looked up to greatly. “He is a true Toon icon. If I could be half as much of an icon for Villa as he is at Newcastle it would be amazing and would mean I was doing something right in claret and blue! “He was top class. Alan is way out in front in that 100 goals club that I’ve been privileged to join. “He’s simply the best striker to have ever come out of this country.” Ahead of his 28th birthday on Monday, Bent would love an early present of scoring at St James’ Park to edge him slightly nearer to Shearer’s record tally. “It would be fantastic to win ahead of my birthday,” he added. “That would make it extra-special. But it’s always nice to get one over on Newcastle as a former Sunderland man.”
