I must admit I don't post many comments, but always read avidly the fun and often superbly witty comments of our own and other teams fans. The banter, piss taking and often down right wumming are generally taken in good humour by all concerned. Occasionally, someone makes a comment that goes way too far and I remember reading at the time the offending comment by SN (which started this furore) and thinking wow the other poster (one of our own from memory!!) did not deserve that. Tai to his credit stepped in straight away and tried to diffuse the situation and the rest to be honest is history.

Where do I stand on this? Well we put our trust in Tai and David to moderate on our behalf and they do a fantastic job in looking after all our interests, and for that I truly thank them. When they spend such an inordinate time mopping up after comments made by 'one of our own' then I can understand their frustration and having previously banned SN on a number of occasions then a permanent ban would seem appropriate. The only other thing I would add to this is, was SN warned a permanent ban would be forthcoming? If not then maybe he should have been before it was implemented. And in that respect maybe a 2-3 strikes and your out banning system should be introduced where any poster who likes to fly close to the wind knows the consequences, something on the lines of:

1st offence - 1 week ban
2nd offence - 2 week ban
3rd offence - complete ban

This is why we laid down ground rules a few months ago to try and 'clean it up' a bit.

Identifying the line between insults/abuse and banter is always going to be a grey area across the spectrum of all our supporters and we are well aware of that particular thorny issue but the days of a football forum being a place to simply become aggressive towards other supporters, as far as Dave & myself are concerned, are over. We have set the rules, which we believe are fair, it's now up to us to police the forum to guide it to what we want it to ultimately become.

Cromer touched on it - we all get tarred with the same brush, making cross board threads a battle ground. That is something are trying to address, as will be seen for the Leicester game

 

He was warned a ban would be implemented if he continued in the same vein, that's when the sarcasm started.

Interesting view coming from a Southampton fan, whose board would not tolerate the same (in my experience). I posted something on the Saints board a couple of months ago to advertise something football related. I was then contacted by your moderators to say they had a lot of complaints about it and were going to remove it, which they did! Now that was pathetic.

 

It's sarcasm for christ sake You're becoming as harsh as the 606 moderators.

 

I'm a Saints fan but I'm not apart of that board (most of them are childish mud slinging idiots).

EDIT: I've been told to say that SN23 had only been banned once previously and that was because of something that happened on GC.

 

He was also banned from the Ipswich board for about 2 months.
Other boards were about to ban him had he continued with his behavior on their boards. The guy is not saint (sorry about the use of that word) but you get the drift.

 

This thread is a bit ridiculous in a sense. Surely if you are going to make these decisions you should just stand by them and get on with it. Not ban him then ask people opinions on it...surely this shows some form of regret on your part for the decision made. The fact you need clarification from others for your banning being correct shows that you aren't 100% sure it is the right thing to do.

I have seen far worse things written many, many time on not606 and no bans have been handed out. Think this is all a bit much and this thread reads like an episode of a bad soap opera. It seems too much crap over a small incident.

 

I agree but too many people had called in to question the decision and the integrity of the moderation. So it's over to the fans.

If we have been unfair then it is likely to happen again, to which effect we want no part of it. Those that think we are unfair can take over the role and provide their version of fairness

 

I know he's not a saint but he's not the worst I've seen on this board. You could unban his account and just ban him from the Norwich board or give him one more chance. If he fails to follow your rules ban him from the Norwich board.

 

He can do what he likes from now on, I am not moderating anymore. I am not prepared to perform a role where the actions are questioned they way they have been in the last 6 months or so - good luck to whoever takes up the role
